Logan, Utah - Katheryn Louise Palmer Gibson, 100, passed away Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014 at her home. She was born April 12, 1914 in Plain City, Utah at the family home on Easter Sunday. She was the fourth of five children to George Arthur Palmer and Mary Catherine Knight.
Katheryn married Elmer Hadley Gibson on June 3, 1935 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
They had two children, Connie and James Palmer Gibson. Katheryn encouraged Elmer to pursue his dream of becoming a veterinarian in 1945. She worked by his side at the Bridgerland-Cache Animal Hospital for 26 years. The veterinary tradition continues, and has been carried out by her son James, grandson Jason Gibson, and grandson-in-law Paul Sanders.
Katheryn found great joy in serving others. She served in many callings, including Relief Society president four times, MIA president, and an officiator in the Logan Temple for over 20 years. She had a firm testimony of Jesus Christ and loved sharing it with everyone she met. She has always been a spiritual beacon to her family, and often recited the songs, ....."Oh when life gets dark and dreary --- Don't Forget To Pray" and "Count Your Blessings."
Katheryn was known for her optimism, cleanliness, humming melodies as she worked,
stellar darning abilities on anything that needed mending, love of family and friends, and
saying "Oh, Joy!"
Katheryn was preceeded in death by her parents, husband Elmer, son James Palmer Gibson, daughter Connie Gibson (Christofferson), and son-in-law Reed Kent Christofferson. All of her siblings: Florence Eunice Palmer (Blanch), George Lyle Palmer, Mabel Vivian Palmer (Thomas), and Marjorie Palmer (Snedaker) also preceeded her. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Betty Smith Gibson, nine grandchildren, and twenty-five great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to express our deep appreciation to nurses, aides, friends, and
family who have showered Katheryn with love and many caring acts of kindness.
Funeral services will be held at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center in Logan,
