Katie Ione Jensen Nielsen, age 101, passed away on Jan. 9, 2006 in Logan, Utah. Katie was born May 8th 1905 to Erastus and Barbetta Gessel Jensen. She was the sixth child in a family with six brothers and six sisters. The family home was north of Logan City on 9th north and 2nd East. On June 3, 1925 she married George Benjamin Nielsen in the Logan Temple. They lived and farmed in Hyrum, Utah. After George died in 1967 Katie continued to raise beef cattle and kept a beautiful yard. Katie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in all auxiliaries with a special love for children serving for 30 years on the Hyrum Stake Primary Board. She was a talented seamstress and also made numerous quilts. Her grandchildren and neighbors were often recipients of her homemade fruit leather or dried fruit. Grandma never wasted anything. With so many family and friends that have passed on before imagine the joyous reunion! Her parents, all her siblings, her husband George Benjanin Nielsen, son Glade Benjamin Nielsen, daughter Lynda Karyn Nielsen Parker; grand daughters Nancy Ann Holt Eskelson, Angela Parker, grandson Lance Nielsen, son-in-law Wendell White and an infant great grandson preceded her in death.
Katie is survived by her three daughters Betty Lou White, Patricia (Bert L.)Brown, Gloria Ann (Ralph) Holt; daughter-in-law Alpha Nielsen and son-in-law Paul Parker. Her posterity numbers over one hundred and forty. Thanks grandma Katie for your great example!
The family expresses thanks to Dr. Lynn P. Eskelson, her many special friends and neighbors in Hyrum; to her family and for the tender care received during her almost six years residency at Sunshine Terrace.
