OUTSTANDING FARMER OF CACHE VALLEY DIES AT THE AGE OF 85

Kendlith Nelson Munk of Amalga, Utah, passed away May 26, 2015. He was born in Benson, Utah, September 5, 1929. He was the second son of Cyril Kendlith and Lilla Nelson Munk, with two brothers, Robert and LaThair Munk.
Ken went to school in Benson and Smithfield, and graduated from North Cache High School and Seminary in 1947. He loved to play baseball with his buddies, Dallin Reese, Dennis Funk and Garrett Thain. He attended Utah State Agricultural College and then fulfilled a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to the East Central States.
He married his true love, Sharen Leishman, in the Logan Temple on July 19, 1951, and after returning home from his honeymoon, he received his Army draft notice in the mail. Time was spent in California at Camp Roberts where he taught at the Leadership school, and then served as a clerk-typist at the 141st General Hospital in Kyushu, Japan, during the Korean War.
He worked at the Amalgamated Sugar Co., in Lewiston, Utah, and bought a farm in Amalga. Ken loved working with the soil and watching things grow. He was awarded an Outstanding Farmer in Cache Valley and received many awards for the production of high quality milk in his dairying business. The farm was incorporated with his two sons, Shane and Sid, and he was very proud of their success.
He served as Bishop of the Amalga Ward and also many other positions in the ward and stake. Ken and his wife, Sharen, fulfilled an LDS Humanitarian Mission to Louisiana in 1998-99.
For two terms, Ken was the Mayor of Amalga, and was instrumental in obtaining and developing Sugar Park, installing a new water system, building a town hall and creating the 24th of July Celebrations. He also served 16 years as a director for the West Cache Canal Co.
He was a just man, honoring God, community, and family. Many men who worked for him came back and thanked him for his teachings about finances.
Ken enjoyed traveling, and loved friendshipping foreign students.
Ken’s family was his greatest asset in life, and he loved to be with them. He is the proud father of five children, 16 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren. Kena Rae Seamons (Wayne), Shane L. (Tammy) Munk, Sid Allen (Kathryn), Mindee Sue McKee (Barry), and Darci Chew (Rial). Ken was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 30, 2015, at 12 noon at the Amalga Church, 6575 N 2400 W. The viewing will be Friday, May 29, from 6 to 8 pm at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E Center, Logan, Utah, and again on Saturday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the funeral at the Amalga Ward. Interment will follow the funeral services at the Smithfield Cemetery.
