Kenneth Jay Braegger

Kenneth Jay Braegger passed away at his home in Providence, Utah on Monday, November 27, 2017 at the age of 91 due to complications of heart disease. Born on September 18, 1926 at his family home in Providence, Utah, he was seventh of the eight children of Henry Wilford and Mary Leonhardt Braegger. He graduated from South Cache High School after which he enlisted in the Marine Corps serving in the Pacific during World War II. In the final days of the war he was injured on Okinawa and was awarded a Purple Heart for bravery in action. After the war he attended Utah State University.
On July 9, 1948 he married his sweetheart, Darlene Buttars, in the Logan Temple. They made their home in Providence where they raised their eight children. He worked in the production department of the Logan Herald Journal where for 43 years he helped put out the daily newspaper. He had an incredible memory and enjoyed talking and writing about his life's experiences and days gone by.
Ken was devoted to his family, church, and country. He and his beloved wife were a remarkable team, working together side by side for over 60 years. He served his community as city councilman, city clerk, and mayor. His church service included callings as bishop, stake presidency counselor, multi-region welfare agent, seven LDS missions including full-time service in Hawaii and Vermont, and ten years service in the Logan Temple.
He will be remembered for his Swiss-German work ethic and honesty, a beautiful yard and garden, skilled hands that could make or fix most anything, his jeep and love of the out of doors, and his devotion to the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Darlene Buttars Braegger and son Jeffrey K. Braegger. Survived by children: Lana (Steve) Barlow, Bountiful, Utah; Lyle (Sue), Malad, Idaho; Kim (Rozanne), Richmond, Utah; Thayne (Colleen), Hyde Park, Utah; Jan (Keith) Rasmussen, Chester, Oklahoma; Roy (Janice), Herriman, Utah; Van, Providence, Utah; daughter-in-law Carrie Braegger, South Jordan, Utah; brother Arvel Braegger (Lovena), Logan, Utah; 32 grandchildren and 79 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held (Monday, December 4, 2017) at 11:30 a.m. in the Providence LDS Church at 309 South Main Street, Providence, Utah. There will be a viewing there from 9 - 11 a.m. prior to the funeral service. Interment in the Providence City Cemetery with military honors.
