Kenneth Mecham

September 18, 1943 — January 10, 2012

Santa Monica, CA: Kenneth Luman Mecham, 68, a former Logan resident passed away
unexpectedly at his home in Santa Monica, CA on January 10, 2012. Ken was born on September
18, 1943 in Logan, Utah to Everett Hess and Lillie Dunford Mecham. His oldest brother wrote in
his journal about Ken's birth. "Our youngest brother and the baby of the family, Kenneth, was
born today. He was a welcome addition and the little caboose of the Mecham train." Later he
wrote "Kennie is very good natured and less rambunctious than any of us. He pleases everyone
and avoids conflict and disturbances. It is very easy to have him around as he is a little
'peacemaker'" .
Ken received his education in the Logan City Schools and Utah State University. He was
an avid skier. He loved the beauties of nature, from the little back yard garden he helped maintain
to the vast Pacific Ocean which he lived near for many years. When he was still in high school he
broke his leg while skiing and he had health issues from that accident that he suffered with his
entire life. Ken was an example of courage and endurance to many people when, in spite of his
health challenges, he chose to serve an honorable LDS Mission to the Northwestern States
Mission. He kept in contact with some of the missionaries he worked with throughout his
lifetime.
He worked at the Cutter Laboratories in Ogden, Utah before moving to California to work
at the Los Angeles Veterans cemetery for many years before his recent retirement. He always
maintained his positive, pleasant personality. His frequent laughter was contagious among his
fellow workers.
Ken is survived by his four brothers; Melvin (Janet Pond) Logan, Utah, Norman (Karma
Rae Rex) San Antonio, Texas, Glenn (Anna Mae Parson) Salt Lake City, Utah, and Edward
(Vicci Hullinger) Phoenix Arizona; also 22 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his
parents and his oldest sibling and only sister Merle and her husband LeRoy Jorgensen.
Memorial Services will be held at noon on Saturday, January 21,2012 at the Logan 11th Ward LDS Church at 195 South 100 East. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family at 11.:00 a.m. prior to the 12:00 Noon services. Burial will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
