Kenneth Thompson

June 25, 1951 — July 22, 2012

Kenneth Jay Thompson of Smithfield, left this earth to meet his father in heaven and beloved daughter Jennifer on Sunday July 22, 2012.

Ken was born June 25, 1951 in Logan, UT to Joe and Norma Thompson as the oldest son of three brothers and three sisters.

Ken had a love for sports from a young age, especially basketball. He helped his dad build a full basketball court in the backyard of their house and he spent many countless hours practicing and perfecting the sport. After excelling in basketball at Sky View, his dedication paid off and he went on to play college ball as a point guard for Utah State University for 4 years. After graduation he went on to coach basketball and taught at Sky View and later Mountain Crest for 30 years.

Ken married Jackie Godderidge in April of 1971 and had 4 average looking daughters who blessed his life with 12 amazing grandchildren. Jayden, Konner, Brylee, Ellie, Kace, Halle, Dax, Skylar, Gabe, Nash, Kruz and Jada Jay. His grandchildren were his life and he loved spending time with them and making them smile. To each of them their Grandpa was their best friend. He was rarely seen without an adoring little fan at his side. The four wheeler rides were the highlight of their lives and his.

Ken is survived by his wife Jackie Thompson, his parents Joe and Norma Thompson (Smithfield) Shane and Tori Meacham (Smithfield), Mike and Carly Larsen (Rochester, MN), Jake and Haley Cowdin (Las Vegas, NV.) and a son-in-law Ryan Peterson (Salt Lake, UT). Ken was preceded in death by Jennifer Thompson Peterson, his loving daughter.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2012 in the Smithfield City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net
