Kristine Halls Smith, 67, of Richmond, passed away May 21, 2007 in Glacier Bay, Alaska while on a cruise with her husband from health complications. Kris was born on February 20, 1940 in Ogden, Utah to Lyle Howard and Beth Roberts Halls. Kristine lived in Morgan, Utah until she was six years old when her family moved to Clearfield. She lived in Clearfield through her graduation from Davis High School in 1958. She received B.S. and M.S. degrees in early childhood education from Utah State University in 1961 and 1962.
After a courtship of four years which started in high school, Kris married Stuart Moulton Smith of Layton, Utah on September 10, 1960 in Logan, Utah. Kris and Stuart had been married for 46 years. They are the parents of three children; Alison, Nathan, and Tyler. Kris and Stuart lived in Logan until 1976 when they moved to Richmond to a home that they had been remodeling.
As an educator, Kris taught child development and worked in the preschool Lab at USU, then as an elementary school teacher in both Logan and Cache school districts. She taught for a total of 19 years with time out to raise her children. She believed strongly in letting children be children and leave them loving school at the end of the day. Kristine loved learning about history and traveled with her husband throughout the US learning about the past in the settings where it happened.
Genealogy was one of Kristine’s greatest passions. She left an incredible legacy to her family by researching the historic information of many generations of family members and compiling their stories with photos into an assemblage she called “So we will remember”.
Kristine is survived by her husband, Stuart; their daughter Alison Augustus, her husband Richard and their four children; son, Nathan; daughter-in-law Marianne Smith, her four boys and her mother Beth R. Halls. She is also survived by her sister Andrea Sheffield (Beck); her brother Brent Halls (Yvonne) and an extended family she loved and enjoyed being with. Kristine was preceded in death by her son Tyler and her father, Lyle H. Halls.
Memorial Services will be held Thursday, May 31, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the City Creek Ward L.D.S. chapel located at 150 South 100 East Richmond, Utah. Visiting with the family will be starting at 10:00 a.m. at the same location. Interment will follow at the Morgan South Cemetery, Morgan, Utah.
