L. Edward Andersen also known as Ed

Our beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on March 2, 2025. He was 89 years old. Ed was the first baby born on New Year's Day and was greatly celebrated. He came into the world on January 1, 1936 in Logan, Utah to his parents, Loyal Irvin and Sara Smith Andersen. He attended Logan Schools and graduated from Logan High.

Ed met his sweetheart Gayle Annette Wuthrich at the Logan skating pond. He noticed this stunning young lady and decided to skate up behind her and quickly snatch her stocking cap. Four years later he snatched her heart. They were married on July 26, 1957 in the Logan Utah Temple, and had been loving companions for 66 years until the passing of his sweetheart almost one year ago. They had four children, Julie, Jill, Eric and Scott. Dad loved all of us and was a wonderful father!

Dad will be remembered by his many Christlike attributes. He was a true Patriarch of his family. He led by example and stayed on the covenant path. He was a very hard worker, and when the work was done he loved to have a good time. He was generous, kind, full of integrity, and always had a soft spot for the underdog. He served in the army and was a true patriot. His passion was any sport. He was fiercely competitive and very athletic. He especially loved golf. He loved to garden and grew the finest produce Logan has ever seen — just ask his neighbors!

He started working as a young boy delivering papers. He then moved on to sweeping floors for Woolworth’s. Through hard work he spent the next 25 years working his way up the company as a general manager traveling to many different states. This truly was a highlight for our family as it helped us grow closer together and blessed us with opportunities to meet many new friends. With all his great retail experience he opened his family business Logan Six Star. To this day people still talk about how much they loved and missed his store.

Ed was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Over the years he served his Heavenly Father in various callings. His favorite call was serving alongside his wife as full-time missionaries in the Washington DC Temple. Since the passing of his sweet wife he has attended the temple faithfully almost everyday. The temple brought him such peace, comfort and joy.

Dad will be sorely missed, but because of his great life his legacy will live on forever through each of us who loved and admired him. Dad and Mom are finally together again, never to be separated.

Ed is survived by his four children, daughter Julie (Chuck) Smith, daughter Jill (Shawn) Bailey, son Eric (Shanna) Andersen, son Scott (Kristi) Andersen, 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and only brother (Lynn) Andersen. He was preceded in death by his sweetheart Gayle and his parents Loyal and Sara Andersen.

A special thank you to all the wonderful neighbors, friends, and ward family for your delicious treats, cards and visits especially at the cemetery where he spent a lot of time thinking about our sweet Mom. Dad really appreciated all of you. Most importantly a special thank you to our brother Scott who served Dad so faithfully.
