September 24, 1939 — December 17, 2018

Beloved husband, father and grandfather, L. Larry Boothe, died on December 17, 2018 in Clinton, Utah. Despite a valiant fight, he lost his final battle to the unrelenting savages of Alzheimer’s. Larry was born 24 September 1939 in Brigham City, Utah, to Valoy Jensen Boothe and Lewis LaLand Boothe. Larry grew up in Honeyville where he attended Box Elder High School, participating in multiple varsity sports, baseball being his favorite. He was the catcher on the Box Elder High School baseball team, which won the Utah State Championship in 1957. Following graduation from high school, Larry attended Brigham Young University on a baseball scholarship, graduating with a BA in Political Science, and then receiving an MA in Public Administration as a member of the first Romney Institute graduating class in 1965. He also graduated from the National War College in Washington, D.C.

While at BYU, Larry met Sharon Delaney. They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on June 26, 1964. Their children are L. Lance Boothe and Dana Boothe Kirkham.

After completing his MPA, Larry taught history and political science at Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs, Wyoming. In January 1966, he began a career with the Central Intelligence Agency, entering the elite Career Training Program. Larry’s career spanned 31 years with tours of service in Munich and Frankfurt, Germany; Caracas, Venezuela; Brussels, Belgium; and the Middle East. He was promoted into the Senior Intelligence Service, serving in executive positions across directorates. He was awarded the Distinguished Intelligence Medal, for meritorious service to the United States. In 1994, he was assigned to Utah State University as an Officer in Residence for the CIA and taught intelligence courses in the political science department. Following retirement from the Agency in 1997, Larry continued to teach at the university for nineteen years as an adjunct professor. Larry enjoyed mentoring and teaching students, and made lasting friendships with the senior citizens he taught each summer. He also served as the Planning and Zoning Administrator in Teton County, Idaho, for several years. Larry’s life was dedicated to public service and it was his greatest honor to serve our nation with his colleagues in the Central Intelligence Agency.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Larry served in multiple positions, including branch president, high counselor, athletic director, scout leader, and teacher. He served a two and half year mission in the Central German Mission, developing a great love for Germany and its people. He participated in scouting, earning the rank of Eagle Scout.

Larry was an avid reader. He acquired an extensive library. He enjoyed playing golf, and had the opportunity to play St. Andrews and surrounding courses in Scotland. He also played Pinehurst in North Carolina. Family vacations with his beloved wife, children and grandchildren were cherished experiences.

Larry is survived by his wife, Sharon, and children Lance (Christine) of Medicine Park, Oklahoma, and Dana (Ryan) of Ammon, Idaho.
