L. Merlynn Smith Pitcher passed away in Logan, Cache County, Utah on December 12, 2014 and was born in Fish Haven, Bear Lake County, Idaho on July 10,1929. The daughter of Ernest Raymond Smith and Myrtle Winnifred Christensen.
She married her sweetheart, Weldon Ray Pitcher on October 4, 1947 in Paris, Bear Lake County, Idaho. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Cache County, Utah LDS Temple. After Merlynn and Weldon were married they lived in Smithfield, CacheCounty, Utah and spent 59 years together until Weldon passed away on January 4, 2007.
She was a member of the Christ of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was currently a member of the Smithfield 8th Ward.
Her love of flowers was passed down to her children, they often helped her arrange her flowers beds. She also loved to read and spent many downtime hours reading. She was a wonderful cook and many of her extended family would have her cook different things for them. Her children loved her cinnamon rolls, raisin filled cookies, and her homemade bread which was to die for. She loved watching her children and grandchildren in all their activities. She also loved going fishing with Weldon , they spent one Summer catching fish and spent all one Saturday bottling them.
She lived a life of strength, joy, love, and service to her family. Starting with her family at the age of seven after the death of her mother.
She is survived by her two sons and four daughters: Rodney Ray Pitcher (Carol Rae Golding) of Provo, Utah, Jeffrey Pitcher (Kim Blanchard) of Temecula California, Susan Pitcher Saltern (Richard J Saltern) of Logan, Utah, LynnAnn Pitcher Mitchell (Gary L. Mitchell) of Smithfield, Utah, Kathleen Pitcher of Smtihfield, Utah and Brenda Pitcher Cook (Keven Cook) of Smithfield, Utah. She is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and thirty-nine great-grandchildren and one more on the way. She is also survived by her brother Leo Don Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents, her infant son Bradley Pitcher and her grandson Bradley Duane Pitcher. She was also preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at the Smithfield North Stake Center, 155 West 400 North in Smithfield. A viewing will be held on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street in Logan, and prior to the services on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the church.
