LaDaun Gunnell Brenchley, age 87 of Wellsville, passed away peacefully in Logan, Utah on July 16, 2024. She was born December 29, 1936, in Logan, the oldest child of Alton Mitton Gunnell and Marie Larsen Smith.
LaDaun attended grade school and junior high in Wellsville and graduated from South Cache High School. She also graduated from beauty school in Ogden.
LaDaun married her sweetheart Arlyn Maughan Brenchley in the Logan LDS Temple on June 21, 1957. Their relationship was a wonderful example of true love that lasted a lifetime. Arlyn and LaDaun raised three children in their Wellsville home.
LaDaun worked for many years as a beautician and made many cherished friendships serving the women who came to her in-home beauty shop each week.
LaDaun’s life has been dedicated to serving her family and community. She loved to host family dinners, picnics (with a huge bowl of potato salad), and fun activities for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Their well-kept home and yard made a prime location to gather with friends and family to watch the Wellsville Founders Day parade each year. Which, according to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, is the best parade in the whole country.
LaDaun was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had a testimony of her Savior. Throughout her life she served in many church callings. LaDaun and Arlyn faithfully served together as missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Tonga Nuku'alofa Mission. While Arlyn served with the men out on the church farms, LaDaun served in the library at the Liahona High School. She loved serving the people of Tonga. They also served a mission at the Logan, Utah LDS Employment Resource Center.
LaDaun and Arlyn loved taking trips to Yellowstone National Park. She knew how to chase the bears away from camp with her frying pans. In their younger days, she and her husband enjoyed square dancing.
Life slowed down after Arlyn’s passing. LaDaun adopted her faithful, affectionate dog Okie. Together they enjoyed watching old television shows, like Perry Mason, Emergency and the occasional Hallmark movie. LaDaun also loved working on puzzles and snacking on her favorite chocolates.
She enjoyed keeping in touch with family and friends during their visits to her home, and via the telephone or Facetime.
LaDaun is survived by their three children, Kim Brenchley Smith (Steven C. Smith), Pleasant Grove, Utah; Blake Arlyn Brenchley (Sindy Hall) Wellsville, Utah; Karen Brenchley Johnson (Jerry E. Johnson) Wellsville, Utah; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sisters: Oralee G. Frank (Lewis S. Frank), Providence, Utah and Marilyn G. Dahle (Fred Dahle, deceased) Amarillo, Texas; brother Lynn Gunnell (Karin Davis), Wellsville, Utah and in-laws: Marilyn B. Froerer (Robert, deceased) Huntsville, Utah; Marie B. Miles (Gail), South Ogden, Utah; Claron Brenchley (Lee Ann) South Ogden, Utah and Gaylene B. Haderlie (Brian), Rexburg, Idaho.
LaDaun was preceded in death by her husband, Arlyn, her parents, Eric Hall Brenchley (grandson), Kylie Johnson (granddaughter) and Rebyl Erica Brenchley (great-granddaughter).
