PROVIDENCE, UTAH: Lafonzo Aikele Zollinger, 97, passed away on January 31, 2010 at the age of 97 in his home at Providence, Utah He was born September 11, 1912, at Providence, Utah, to Joseph Hyrum Zollinger and Laura Aikele. . His parents, three brothers and three sisters have preceeded him in death. His living sisters are Bethea Dale of Oxford, Ohio, Vendla Nilson of Oregon City, Oregon, and Elvie Johnson of Boise, Idaho.
Lafonzo married Sarah Camille Walton in the Salt Lake Temple on October 3, 1935. They have five children: Bill (Karen) Zollinger of St George, Utah, Diane (Roland) Smith of St George, Utah, Blaine (Chloe) Zollinger of Providence, Utah, Darnell (Dean) Jeffs of Or em, Utah and Richard (Janice) Zollinger of Millville, Utah. His sweetheart of 73 years passed away on March 8, 2009 in St George, Utah. He is survived by 34 grandchildren and 67 great grand children.
Lafonzo was a resident of Cache Valley all his life. In his later years he enj oyed winter homes in Mesa, Arizona and in St George, Utah. He went to school in Providence, farmed in Cache Valley and dry farmed in Dillon, Montana. He leveled land all over the Valley, owned and operated a construction company and engaged in commercial warehousing. He enjoyed collecting and restoring old cars, trucks and tractors, and loved sharing them with others as often as he could.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints all his life, served in the Bishopric of theLogan 17th Ward and served a mini mission with his wife to the West Indies Mission. He was an active temple patron until the end of his life.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 in the Providence South Stake Center, 360 East 450 North in Millville. There will be a viewing Friday evening from 6:00 - 7:30 pm at the Allen-Hall Mortuary (34 East Center St.) in Logan and at the church on Saturday from 9:30 - 10:30 am. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
