Lagene Spackman Halverson

February 20, 1943 — June 27, 2017

LaGene S. Halverson, 74 of Richmond, UT passed away Tuesday June 27, 2017of complications from a heart attack. LaGene was born February 20, 1943 to Rene LaMar Spackman and Janice Bullen Spackman. She was born in Logan, UT but spent her life in Richmond, UT, she attended schools in the Cache County School District, graduating from North Cache High School in 1961 following which she briefly attended Weber State College.

LaGene married Larry Rawlins in April of 1962. They remained married until his death in 1968. She then met the man who was to be her best friend, Verl Halverson, and they were married in November 1969. Together they made their home in Richmond where they raised their children Saunie and Darren. They remained married until Verl’s death in June 2016.

Throughout their marriage Verl & LaGene had many hobbies. Early on they rode horses, taking their horses on many holiday weekend treks. They were avid snowmobilers for many years, belonged to The Logan Dance Club, and shared in LaGene’s greatest passion, golf. They belonged to The Logan Golf and Country Club for many years where LaGene also served as president of the ladies’ organization.

LaGene spent her professional life in the banking, mortgage, and insurance industries. Her numerous accomplishments, positions and credentials are too many to list but varied from one of the few VA inspectors during the 1960’s and 1970’s, to president of the local Credit Women Chapter, to bank officer. She served the people of Cache Valley with great pride as they sought out financing, insurance and other property matters. She truly enjoyed her years in the financial services sector and a job well done was a source of great satisfaction to her.

She served her community as a member of the Cache Chamber of Commerce, for a time headed its Bridger Brigade, and was a founding member of the local Women in Business organization. She was a member of Cache Republican Women, serving a term as president of the local chapter. She held great faith in our political system and wanted to continue sharing our freedoms by encouraging people to vote. To that end, she spent many afternoons at the high schools registering student who were of age to vote and encouraging them to do so. She was full of elegance, grace, class and compassion. She touched the lives of all she encountered. Those who knew her were better off for that experience.

She is survived by her children, four siblings- Phillip (Christie) Spackman of Richmond, Pamela (Rex) Burbank of Paris, ID, Terry (Debbie) Spackman of Richmond, and Dallas (Tonya) of Richmond. She is also survived by in laws- BetteJo Twomey of Dallas, TX, Boyd (Paulette) Halverson of Logan, and Robert (Reta) Halverson of Roy.
Others that preceded her in death were her parents, LaMar and Janice Spackman, in-laws Lewis and Florence Halverson, two sisters in law and one brother in law.

The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the Cache Valley paramedics and ambulance crew for their care and attention when they came to our home, the Logan Regional Hospital Emergency Department for their services, and the doctors and staff at Cache Valley Heart Clinic for their care, service and amazing effort to try to save her.

The family will host a visitation on Sunday, July 2, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E Center Street in Logan, again on Monday, July 3, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the mortuary followed by a graveside service at the Richmond City Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Richmond City Cemetery.
