Larae Adams

January 23, 1929 — August 6, 2011

LOGAN - LaRae Hatton Adams passed away peacefully on August 6, 2011, joining her beloved husband of 60 years, James Othella Adams.

Born January 23, 1929, in Fillmore, Utah, to Henry Emerson and Frances Whicker Hatton, she spent her childhood and youth in Fillmore, helping on the farm and working at the telephone office until she left at age 18 for Utah State University. It was there that she met and married Jim in the Logan LDS Temple. Their first home was in Moreland, Idaho, where Jim was assigned to teach LDS Seminary. Teaching assignments took them and their young family to Fillmore, Provo, Bountiful, and finally Hyrum, where they lived for 50 years.

LaRae spent her life in the service of friends, neighbors, and especially her family. She was an exceptional seamstress, patient listener, and amateur pastry chef and baker. Her fruit pies and spudnuts were famous. She served faithfully in many capacities in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and devoted countless hours to practicing and accompanying a variety of vocalists and instrumentalists throughout Cache Valley. She played the organ for her congregation as long as her hands could play. A highlight of her life was serving with her husband in the Ohio Akron Mission. She counted her service in the Logan Temple among her favorite callings and left this earth with a strong and abiding testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Working at Lincoln Elementary School in Hyrum tenderly helping children with special challenges brought LaRae great satisfaction. She extended that same tenderness to friends and family with similar circumstances.

When asked what brought her the most joy, she emphatically stated “my family.” She loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren very dearly and always expressed gratitude for each one of them.

LaRae was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters Lorene Hatton and Genevieve (Guy) Anderson; brother Wells (Thelma) Hatton; daughter Carol (Larry) Pease, and granddaughters Eleisha Griffiths and Ashley Pease.

She is survived by children Linda (Michael) Weighall, Bakersfield, CA; Joel (Kathy) Adams, St. George, UT; Kenneth (Elaine) Adams, Sandy, UT; Jill (Larry) Burnett, Mesa, AZ; Christine (Barney) Olsen, Cottonwood Heights, UT; Janice (Kent) Griffiths, Lawrenceville, GA; son-in-law Larry (Kathie) Pease, Salt Lake City; 26 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 13, at 12:00 p.m. at the Hyrum 10th Ward Chapel (111 North 400 West, Hyrum, Utah). Viewings will be held Friday, August 12, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Allen-Hall Mortuary (34 East Center Street, Logan) and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in Hyrum at the church prior to the service. Following the funeral service, interment will be at the Hyrum City Cemetery. Condolences and thoughts may be expressed to the family online at www.allenmorutaries.net .

The family wishes to express gratitude to LaRae’s wonderful extended family, neighbors, friends, Hyrum 5th Ward, Canyon Creek Assisted Living, and Haven Hospice for their love, kindness, and gentle care.
