Larry Aubrey Earl, 79, passed away peacefully at his home on June 26, 2024, after a hard-fought battle with a lingering illness.
Larry was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was born May 18, 1945, in Logan, Utah, to Orange Lavar Earl and Violet Beldon Parker Earl. He was the fourth of eight children and grew up in River Heights, Utah. He went to school in River Heights and Providence, then graduated from South Cache High School, where he played the clarinet in the marching band. He also played church basketball and softball.
Larry was a part of the ROTC and the Institute of Religion programs at Utah State University before serving as a missionary in the Virginia North Carolina mission from 1964-1966. After his mission, he continued his institute studies and also belonged to the Sigma Gamma Chi fraternity. He was very proud of his graduation from the Institute Program after four years of study.
Larry loved to sing. He sang in the Institute choir, which was twice invited to sing at General Conference. He also sang in a barbershop quartet.
While attending a university ward at Utah State, Larry met his eternal companion, Connie Evans, and they were married and sealed in the Logan Temple on May 11, 1973. They were married for 51 years. During this time, he served in several different callings in many wards, including serving in a bishopric.
Larry collected old coins and loved giving his grandkids silver dollars. He also loved antique cars and old military planes and could tell you the names of all of them! He loved to talk about the convertible he drove before marriage, as well as the 1970 green Charger that he drove after marriage. He was a good mechanic and worked on the family cars, always keeping them running.
Larry loved watching sports, especially basketball, football, and occasionally car racing. He attended as many USU basketball and football games as he could.
Larry loved to read. He especially enjoyed learning about Native American culture, as well as history of the American West. He loved his country and had a great knowledge of history. He could tell you many facts about various wars that were fought throughout the world at different times. His favorite books were about WWII, which ended the year he was born.
Larry worked at the Defense Depot Ogden (DDO), in connection with Hill AFB, for 29 years. After retiring from DDO in 1995, he went on to work at Utah State University for another 18 years.
Larry lived life to the fullest. He loved to make others happy with his wit and humor, and he always made people laugh by telling jokes. He also loved singing and performing in The West: America’s Odyssey, at Logan’s Festival of the American West, and did so for 13 years.
Larry is greatly loved and missed by his wife, Connie, daughters, sons-in-law, and four grandchildren: Kami (Chuck), Kesney, & Kyler Jenkins, and Tori (Tom), Anaia, & Iassc Fairbanks.
He is survived by five siblings: Barbara (Ken) Waite; Gary (Julie) Earl; Patricia (Larry) Anderson; AnnaMarie (Alan) Jacobson; Rick (RuthAnn) Earl; and sisters-in-law Bernice Earl and Brenda Earl. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Lavar, and brother Steve.
