Walnut Creek, CA: LaRue Anna Matney died on April 30, 2008 in Walnut Creek, California at the age of 89. She came to the Bay Area in the 1940's with her now deceased husband who completed dental school.
LaRue was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She especially enjoyed any involvement concerning service to others. Over the last 20 years, she made thousands of quilts for “those in need,” many of which were sent around the world.
LaRue touched many lives with her gracious spirit and upbeat attitude. Her ability to listen was appreciated by all who knew her. She was a true friend to many.
LaRue was devoted to her children. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always taking great pride in their various achievements and activities.
She is survived by her children, Nadene Oliver, Carole Patton and Gordon Matney. LaRue’s grandchildren include Kimberly Lapham, Clark Sorenson, David Sorenson, Rebecca Larson, Mary Katherine Oliver, Charles Oliver, Ryan Oliver and Elizabeth Oliver. She is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren. LaRue was preceded in death by her husband, D. Kent Matney and her son, Stephen O. Sorenson.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at 12:00 PM at the Allen-Hall Mortuary. A visitation at the mortuary will be held prior to services beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in the Providence City Cemetery in River Heights. Condolences may be sent to the family at
