Laura Ashliman Lofthouse, age 96, passed away Sunday April 6th 2014 in Logan, Utah. She was born at home in North Logan on April 29th, 1917 to Eleanor Horsley Gubler and John Ashliman, the eighth of ten children.
She met her eternal companion, Richard Lofthouse at a dance in Logan. They were married November 18th, 1936 in the Logan LDS Temple.
Soon after marriage they settled in Avon in a small home Richard built on his farm.
She was an industrious soul who loved her four children as well as sewing, baking, planting flowers and bird watching. She did seasonal work at the Del Monte Cannery and Jensen Candy Company.
In 1954 she and her husband moved to Paradise where she lived until her death. Laura was a member of the Avon Ladies’ Club. Alongside her husband, she was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held teaching positions in the Relief Society, Primary and M.I.A. She and Richard served as ordinance workers in the Logan and Ogden temples, and were ward and stake dance directors. They also did janitorial work at the church house for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard (1987) and daughter Laura (1997), her parents, brothers - Ralph, Raymond, Merlin, Eldon, Clarence, Laurn, Marvin; sisters - Lucile Barker (Lee) and Eleanor Kohler (Dorrel); three grandchildren and one great- grandchild.
Survivors are: daughter Carol Van Orden (Maurice) of Layton, Sharon (Frankovich) Lofthouse of Paradise and son James A. (Roberta) of Paradise, twenty-six grandchildren, and numerous great & great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, April 12, 2014 in the Paradise 3rd Ward Chapel, 9060 South 200 West in Paradise. A viewing will be held on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street in Logan, and prior to the services on Saturday at the church from 1:30 to 2:30 PM.
