Laura Jean Ford

August 8, 1923 — November 24, 2007

Jean Ford -
Laura Jean Ford, joined her eternal family on November 24, 2007. Our best friend left us peacefully in the early morning escorted by our dad, brother, and sister. Mom was born on August 08, 1923 in Ignacio, Colorado to Roland and Laura Sowards. She attended schools in Colorado and became a telephone operator where she was able to transfer to Logan, Utah and move her family here. After arriving in Logan, they spent several years there before settling for good in Smithfield. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she held many positions through the years, including, visiting teacher, special interest leader, extraction missionary and as a temple worker in the Logan Temple. She spent many hours crocheting afghans, baby dresses, blessing blankets and more, and she taught some of her children and grandchildren to crochet as well. Mom supported her family as a telephone operator for many years and her grandchildren all knew that if they wanted to talk to grandma, all they had to do was dial “0". After retirement she spent time taking care of her family and many friends. She loved a bus ride to Wendover and she had a special fund just for those occasions.

Mom leaves behind a great legacy of service and devotion for her children and grandchildren, all of which she was extremely proud of. Her most joy was when her grandkids would stop in just to say hi, and to see if she had made more cookies.

Mom was preceded in death by her eternal companion William “Bill” Ford, Son Kenneth W. Ford, daughter Laura L Ford, one granddaughter and two great grandsons. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Jean is survived by her children, Elaine and Karl Straub Smithfield, Nancy and Bob Hartman Morgan, UT, Michael and Tonya Ford Kingman, AZ, Susan and David Daniels Spokane, WA, Jeff and Lisa Ford Smithfield, Laura (deceased) and Morris Yates Blackfoot, ID, Charles Ford Kaysville, and Mark and Diane Ford West Jordan, UT, 33 grandchildren, 59 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters and many cousins and friends.

Mom, we love you with all our hearts and we are so glad that you are with dad now and your suffering is over, you have fought a good fight and now the battle is over and your rewards will be great. Until we meet again, we love you and will miss you.

Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday Nov. 29, 2007 in the Smithfield 1st and 2nd Ward Chapel, 150 South 100 West in Smithfield. There will be a viewing held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday Nov. 28, 2007 at Allen– Hall Mortuary, 34 E Center St. Logan and at the church prior to services on Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery.
