Laurie Baird Hardman was called home on June 9, 2024, after a valiant struggle with pancreatic cancer.   The youngest daughter of Thomas O. Baird and Rayda Harrison, Laurie grew up in Providence, Utah and attended Cache County Schools, including graduating from Sky View High School in 1980.

Her father, as a schoolteacher, allowed for many camping trips during summer vacation and Laurie loved to camp and visit family during those warm summer days. Laurie loved music and learned to play the flute, a talent she was asked to share  on many occasions for church and community events.

After attending Utah State University for a time, Laurie married Jonathan W. Hardman in the Logan Temple in 1984 and life began a new adventure.  Laurie and Jon lived in Tonopah, Nevada and Roosevelt , Utah   before returning to Cache Valley and settling in Mendon. Laurie was the proud mother of 8 children including Amy Laree (deceased), twin daughters, Heather Dawn and Heidi Anne, daughter, Holly Irene, Son, Andrew Thomas (deceased), Son, Jaison Neff and twin daughters Sharae and Shaelyn.  Laurie also welcomed son-in-laws, Preston Maloney, James Taylor, Todd Bendall and Jade Horlacher to her growing family and a daughter-in-law, Amanda Weeks.  She loved being a grandmother to 7 granddaughters and 3 grandsons.

Laurie loved being a stay-at-home mother during her children’s growing up years but later chose to work as a Teacher’s Aid in both the Logan and Cache School Districts working with special needs preschool children. Laurie was a very loving and patient person who enjoyed helping  3- and 4-year children grow and progress in developing early life skills and abilities.

Although not her first choice, Laurie willingly worked on the family farm moving sprinkler pipe, hauling hay and doctoring cattle. She never complained and often commented that moving sprinkler pipe was her summer exercise program.  She was a true partner and companion in all family endeavors.

Laurie served in many organizations as a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she shared her testimony of the Living Savior, Jesus Christ by her example.

Laurie is survived by her mother, Rayda Harrison Baird, Brothers, Keith (Edith) Fenton and Larry Baird, sisters, Terrilee (John) Clark and Coral Larsen.  She is preceded in death by her Father, Thomas O. Baird and brother, Ron (Pat) Fenton and children, Amy Laree and Andrew Thomas, who we are certain welcomed her on her return to her heavenly home.

As the years  go on, Laurie will always be remembered by her family and friends for her warm smile, genuine love and concern for those around her, never an unkind word toward others, her enduring patience and willingness to quickly forgive another’s trespasses, and her strong desire to live life to the fullest.  Never tell her she couldn’t do something hard because she would dedicate her efforts to prove them wrong.

The Hardman family wishes to thank all those who have provided meals, kind words and hours of service in caring for Laurie in her time of need.  We wish to extend a special thank you to Dr. Jared Manning, Kyle Raymond and the amazing nurses and staff at the Intermountain (Gossner) Cancer Center, who helped navigate the most difficult challenge of our lives with kindness and caring.   We also wish to thank the professional staff at Intermountain Home and Hospice for their help and assistance at the end.  An additional thank you and recognition to Jackie and Paul Culley, Stephanie Watkins and the Christmas for Cancer Families Organization including the  numerous community, church and unknown volunteers who provided our family with a Christmas we’ll always remember.

Funeral Services are under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary and will be held at the Mendon 2nd Ward Chapel, 460 S. 100 East, in Mendon Utah at 12 Noon on Friday, June 14, 2024. A viewing will be held prior to the service starting at 10:00 am.  Burial will be in the Mendon Cemetery.
