LaVar Christiansen Parkinson, born on February 23, 1936, in Wellsville, Utah, passed away at the age of 87 on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, in Logan, Utah.

LaVar was the third of four children of Chance Hoskin Parkinson and Lillis Christiansen Parkinson. He married Joann Hansen Parkinson on May 18, 1956, and they were blessed with five children, Brad (Marcia), Cory (Kayleen), Kelly (Laura), Tracy (Cindy), and Kim. LaVar was a dedicated and supportive husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a close friend to all his kids and grandkids and looked forward to weekly get-togethers and holidays. LaVar was a wonderful neighbor, always willing to give his time and talents to help others. He never met a stranger. Every person in the world, to him, was just a friend he hadn’t met yet. LaVar retired from Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends hunting, fishing, backpacking, and riding his motorcycles.

He is survived by his children, 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and brothers Devon (Dora) Parkinson and Deloy (Joyce) Parkinson. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brother, Burnell Parkinson.

Funeral services for LaVar Parkinson will be held on Friday, December 15, 2023, at noon at the Wellsville 7th Ward Chapel, 660 South 100 West, with Bishop Rich White presiding. A viewing will be held at the church before the service from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. Burial will be in the Wellsville Cemetery. The family wants to thank Legacy House of Logan and Hospice for their great love, care, and dedication to our father over the past three years.
