Lavonna Jean Schvaneveldt

Lavonna Jean Garner Schvaneveldt, age 89 died in Tooele, UT on Jan 9, 2017 one day before her 90th birthday. She was born January 10, 1927 in Fairfield, Oklahoma to Frank B. and Helen Patzkowski Garner. She married Cpt. Clyde J. Schvaneveldt June 15, 1947 in Enid, Oklahoma in the 1st Baptist Church.
She was the wife of a career Army Officer who retired as a Lt. Col. in 1965 with 30 years’ service. They raised their family the military way, traveling the world; and Jean, from day one, made her career one of homemaking, gardening, and service to her children and husband. Her family was her life---that never changed.

After their marriage, Clyde and Jean moved to Fort Bragg, NC for 6 months; then to Fort Riley, KS until Sep. 1948. From there, they made their home in Germany where their first son was born. In 1951 they lived at Fort Smith, AR; in 1952 they lived in Corpus Christi, TX. While Clyde served in Korea, Jean lived in Logan, UT then Enid, OK where their second son was born. After Clyde returned from Korea in 1954, they lived in Lawton and then Fort Sill, OK. In 1957, the family moved again to Germany where their daughter was born. Returning from Germany in 1962, the family made their home in Provo, UT where Clyde retired. In 1966, the family then moved to Salt Lake City, UT for a year and then to Roy, UT, where they lived until 1993.
Thereafter, they moved to St. George, UT and enjoyed the warmer climate until Clyde passed away in 1998. In 1999, Jean moved to Stansbury Park and built a home on a lot they had purchased many years before. She lived there until recently when she moved to Cottage Glen Assisted Living Center in Tooele. This residence became the final stop in her career as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Jean worked for the IRS for a few years when her children hit college age and survived cancer two times, once in Roy, and once in Stansbury Park.

Never active in any particular religion, Jean did live a very spiritual life and wants all to know that she is now having a celebratory reunion with Clyde and other deceased family members and friends. Wherever the family lived, Jean made a comfortable home and supported her husband and children. She was very proud of her family and loved them so much. In her later years, she used to often say, “I can’t die now; I’m having too much fun.” In the last few years, heart failure and kidney failure took some of the fun out of her life, but she held on to life until the last few months when complications mounted. She is not resting in peace. She’s now enjoying the party that she’s been planning for a few months.

Survivors: Kim (Kathleen) Schvaneveldt, Bountiful, Utah. Craig (Noreen) Schvaneveldt, Providence,Utah. Marie (Lynn) Larson Stansbury Park, Utah. Four Granddaughters: Kami, Kari, Karli, Erika and Grandson: Jorgen; seven great-grandchildren.
Jean requested that she be cremated and her remains buried next to her husband in Logan Cemetery. A family gathering will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Logan, 178 W Center St., Logan, UT 84321, Saturday, January 14th at 11:00 AM.
