LOGAN - Larry (92) & Aurelia (91), married more than 73 years, returned to their Heavenly Father only 6 days apart. Larry passed away on January 16, followed by his beloved wife on January 22, 2015
Larry was born in Salt Lake City on May 15, 1922. He was the son of Alonzo Tate and Esther Fern Hick. During the depression the family moved to Berkeley, CA. Larry graduated from Berkeley High in 1940.
Aurelia (known as Dot) D’Anna was born in San Francisco to Leonard D’Anna and Eugenie LaHanier. Dot loved to ride horses at her grandparent’s ranch in Maiposa, CA and was very talented at drawing. She graduated from Berkeley High in 1941.
Larry & Dot, were married 18 May 1941. Their new life together was interrupted by WWII when Larry joined the Navy and served in the Pacific. Later they decided to make the Navy a career and the family traveled to many exciting and interesting places. After retiring in 1965 they settled in Napa, CA. Larry got his degree and became a school teacher. Dot was always a homemaker and taught and raised 5 children.
After Dot’s conversion to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1953 they were actively engaged in various callings. Larry was a Bishop for nearly 10 years and Dot was involved in music and Relief Society. They served two missions; Philippine Branch in Vallejo, CA and in the Arkansas Little Rock Mission.
Survived by daughters Ninette Tate, Rene (Norman) Walker and DeeDee Kirkley; sons Matt and Mark (Susan). They have 23 grandchildren, 40 great and 9 great, great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Dot will be held Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at noon at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan, UT. A visitation will be held prior to the services from 11:00 to 11:45 AM. Services for Larry were held on January 19th. Dot will join Larry in the Wellsville Cemetery after the service.
