LOGAN, UTAH: Leah Ann Wood Dunbar Staples, 96,passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon
March 11, 2012 at the Sunshine Terrace following a brief illness surrounded by a few family members and dozens of roses sent by friends and family.
I was born to Alonzo Kimball Wood and Florence Annette Bowen on March 8 1916 in Mendon, Utah. I helped on the family farm I went to school in Mendon and South Cache High where I won several medals for debate. I was the valedictorian. In 1927 I was the Mendon May Day Queen. I married Marvin W. Dunbar Dec 21 1937. We had two children Marlene Griffin (David deceased) Don W. Dunbar.We were married for 26 years when he was killed by lightning. Marvin was a superb horseman and rodeo champion. I Loved horse back riding and gave riding lessons for many years. I enjoyed showing horses and won many trophies and ribbons. After Marvin's passing I sold all my horses except my favorite "My Cue". I managed the Red Fox Ladies store for many years I worked at Keith O Brians as a dept manager and buyer. On April 10 1968 I married Claude Staples. We were married for 16 years. Claude died in 1983. While married to Claude I enjoyed helping him run his ranch the 26,000 acre Fort Ranch at Promontory.
I was a member of the LDS church serving in various callings relief society teaching my favorite.
I am survived by my two children, sister Juanita (Marlin) Larsen 7 grand children, 15 great grand children and 2 great great grand children. Long time friend and care giver for the last 9 years David. I was preceded in death by my parents husbands sisters Dorothy Richeson Lorraine Muir Brother Alonzo Gilbert Wood son in law, David Griffin.
I want to thank my friend and Dr. Michael Stones for his taking care of me also the wonderful staff of the Sunshine Terrace and Terrace Grove for the wonderful care you gave me these last four years.
