Lee Ann Sorenson

April 17, 1934 — January 12, 2024

Logan, Utah

Sara Lee Ann Murdock Sorenson peacefully left this world on January 12, 2024.  She was born in Logan, Utah on April 17, 1934 to Clarence Murdock and Sara McAlister Murdock.  She was the second of six children.  Lee Ann loved growing up in Driggs, Idaho.  Her father was the band instructor there affectionately referred to as “Prof” Murdock.  Lee Ann loved music and excelled in playing the piano, cello, viola, and trombone to name a few instruments.  Piano was her favorite and she accompanied many a performer and choir throughout her life.  She often told us about picking potatoes for pennies a bushel and credited her skills with managing money to her first boss, Mr. Harper, at the drug store.

Lee Ann attended Utah State and worked as the secretary of the band department.  It was there she met the love of her life, David Sorenson.  After hearing him play his trumpet “she knew she would marry him.” They were married in the Logan Temple on September 17, 1954.

Life began for this young couple as Dave accepted his first band teaching position at Snake River High School in Moreland, Idaho.  Incredibly in 1956 they had 3 children, Mary Ann, being born in February and twins, Jim and Bob, arriving in December.  Even the IRS couldn’t believe it and decided to conduct an audit. While living in Idaho ,they had two more children, Sue and Peggy.  The Sorenson family was complete with 5 children 5 and younger.

Lee Ann supported Dave in his idea to pursue a law degree and the family moved to Salt Lake where she worked for the US Forest Service.  She continued employment with the Forest Service when the family moved back to Logan to start Dave’s law practice. Lee Ann considered her greatest job was being involved with her family.  She supported all of her children, grandchildren (19 of them)  and great-grandchildren (42 of them) in their activities and dreams.

Lee Ann was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  She served in every auxiliary.  Lee Ann and Dave also served two full time missions, one in New Zealand and the other in The Family and Church History Mission in Salt Lake City.  They also worked in the Logan Temple for a number of years.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, David.  Her children Mary Ann Essig (Fred), James D. Sorenson (Dana Carlisle), Robert C. Sorenson (Heidi Zurcher), Sue Sorenson, and Peggy Brown (Bob).  Her siblings, Clixie Hooper, Mac Murdock (Deanna), Ralph Murdock (Varlene), Betsy Prinster (Tim) and Robert Murdock (Diana).  She was proceeded in death by both of her parents, a sister in law, Linda Murdock,  a brother-in-law, Donald Hooper and a grandson, Danny Sorenson.

Viewings will be held on Thursday, January 18th at the center street Allen-Hall Mortuary (34 East Center Street, Logan, Utah) from 6-8 PM  and at the North Park 5th ward (2540 N. 400 E.
