Legrande Clark Ellis

June 20, 1932 — November 14, 2008

LeGrande Clark Ellis passed away suddenly on November 14, 2008, after a long history of heart disease, cancer and diabetes.
He was born on June 20, 1932 in Farmington, UT to Owen and Mary Ellis. He married the love of his life, Marilyn, on September 18, 1952 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
After graduating from Davis High School in 1950, he attended Utah State University where he received Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. He went on to earn a Ph.D. in Physiology from Oklahoma State University and completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Utah. During his 35-year tenure as a professor of physiology at Utah State University, he earned the admiration and respect of many students by making their success his priority.
Being dedicated to the Boy Scouts of America and serving in many capacities, he was honored to receive the Silver Beaver award. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he served as Bishop, High Councilor, and in the High Priest Group leadership. He found great joy from serving others. He had a beautiful voice and loved singing in the ward choir.
As a master gardener, he loved sharing the fruits of his garden with his family, friends and neighbors. In retirement, he had a passion for anything with a small engine and was affectionately known as the “Lawn Mower Man”. He never met a lawnmower he didn’t like.
His testimony of our Savior, Jesus Christ, burned brightly. As a father, he left a legacy of faith in his children and grand children. His love and example will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn, children, LuAnn (Tom) Willmore, Janet Maw, L. Clark (Shannon) Ellis, Julie (Lance) Haycock, Scott (Karen) Ellis, Jason (Jessica) Ellis, daughter-in law Robin Ellis, 23 Grand children and 3 great Grand Children who love him dearly. Brothers Richard (Beverly) Ellis, Stephen (Dee) Ellis, Sisters Colleen (Steve) Love, Elaine (Paul) Beckstrand. He is preceded in death by his son Brent, and Grandson Ethan.
