Lenore Campbell Litz died peacefully at home on January 12, 2024, from complications from Sepsis and as she put it, “too many birthdays”. Born on October 13, 1922, in Providence, Utah to Joseph Milton and Vera Thorpe Campbell, Lenore was the third of five siblings. She graduated from South Cache High School and then Holy Cross nursing school in 1947. She was a surgical nurse in Cache Valley in the late 40s and early 50s. She met the love of her life, Owen E. (Tony) Litz on a New Year’s Eve blind date and was married eight months later on August 26, 1948. They have three children: David G. Litz (deceased), Owen C. (Kathy) Litz, and Cathrine (David) Kirby; six grandchildren: Jade (Frank) Mendoza, David M. (Sara) Litz, Xia (Todd) Erickson, Nadia Kobori, Omar Litz, and Ali Litz; and eight great grandchildren: India Mendoza, Saxon Mendoza, Ronan Mendoza, Evelyn Lenore Litz, Owen Litz, Eli Litz, Kay Kobori, Layla Litz, and Zoe Litz.
Tony returned to active duty in the army at the outbreak of the Korean War and made the
U.S. Army his career.
Lenore spent the years from 1951 to 1973 raising her three children and moving every two years or so as Tony received new assignments from the army. Their tours of duty included assignments in Germany, New England, New Mexico, the Panama Canal Zone, Pennsylvania, and Illinois. In 1973 after serving his country honorably for thirty years, Owen retired from the U.S. Army as a full Colonel. Lenore and Tony then embarked upon the next chapter of their lives: a fifty-year career in the
antique business. They opened an antique store, Antique Harbour, first in metropolitan St. Louis, then, when the couple returned to Utah, in downtown Logan that featured fine Victorian furniture refinished and reupholstered by Tony with needlework supplied by Lenore. While Owen performed the restoration and repairs needed to maintain their inventory, Lenore managed the store and focused her attention on sales and building relationships with customers and suppliers. While she and Tony enjoyed gardening and playing golf, what Lenore treasured most was the time she spent with her husband and family. She adored her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and was especially fond of hosting large family gatherings for Christmas. Lenore’s seemingly inexhaustible energy and capacity to feel and share love with her family, Church, and friends were remarkable. Her selfless devotion to others, kindness, and laughter will be missed more than words can tell.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 19, 2024 at 12:00 noon in the Allen -Hall Mortuary Chapel, 34 East Center Street in Logan. Friends and family may call at the mortuary on Friday morning from 10:00 am till 11:30 am. Interment will be in the Providence City Cemetery.
The family expresses their appreciation to Rocky Mountain Hospice for the compassionate care Lenore received in the weeks preceding her death and asks those who wish to honor her memory make donations to either the Logan Regional Hospital or the American Lung Association.
