Leola Long Ash
1920 – 2008
Our dear mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away in Gunnison, Utah October 28, 2008.
Mom grew up with eight brothers and sisters on a farm in Cub River, Idaho. She, along with the rest of her family, were acquainted with hard work and frugal living. These qualities were something she lived the remainder of her life.
Mom was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved the gospel and its teachings. She held many callings in the church and was always willing to serve. She filled a full-time mission in the California Mission and loved serving the Lord in this capacity. She later met and married Ralph Henry Ash in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had three boys; James, Marvin and Virgil. Dad died in 1951 leaving mom to raise three sons. Mom graduated from Utah State University with an Education Degree and taught for many years in the Cache School District. After retiring she was able to care for her mother for many years in her home. Mom continued to serve many people throughout her life with little thought for herself.
Mom is survived by her two sons; Marvin (Denise), Virgil (Cyndee), daughter-in-law; Brenda (Ron McKee), grandchildren; Andrea (Don Claus), Nathaniel (Crystal), Matthew (Melissa), Chelsea, Caitlyn, Jim (Eliza), Stephanie (JD), Melanie Bronas, Joe Bryant (Jackie), Andrea Bronas; ten great-grandchildren, brothers; Verl (Audrey), Reed (Carma), sisters; Merle, Vonda (Forrest), Rayma (Laef), and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by husband, Ralph, and son, James, parents; Rufus and Lettie Long, siblings and spouses; Thora (Raymond), Wendell (Afton), Bryce (Betty), brother-in-law, Claire.
We will miss this strong, independent woman, but are glad that she is free from her many health struggles.
We would like to thank the Golden Skyline Living Center for their care and Dr. Judy and the staff at Gunnison Valley Hospital for the excellent care she received in her final days.
Funeral services will be held November 1, 2008 at 2:00pm at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center, Logan, UT. A viewing will precede the funeral at 1:00-1:45pm. Interment will be at the Mapleton, Idaho Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at
