Leora Allen Giles

November 22, 1926 — April 10, 2018

PROVO, UTAH: Leora Allen Giles, 91, passed away peacefully at Fairfield Village in Layton , Utah on Tuesday, April 10, 2018.

Leora was born on November 22, 1926 in Smithfield, Utah to Grover Elijah and Francetta Harris Allen. She grew up in Cove, Utah and was the third of nine children, five boys and four girls. She graduated from North Cache High School in 1945.
Leora attended BYU where she met her husband, Floyd Knight Giles. They were married on April 2, 1947 in the Logan Temple. Floyd and Leora lived in Provo where she worked as the Provo City Children’s Librarian for 28 years. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings in the Ward and Stake Primary and was also Relief Society President.

Leora traveled the world. As a small child she would sit on the roof of the chicken coop and say “WORLD, I’m gonna see you!” and she did. Some of her adventures included: kissing the Blarney Stone in Ireland, holding snakes in the Amazon, eating iguana for dinner in Australia, fighting off monkeys in Morocca, and having the train she was on in Mexico robbed by the Copper Canyon banditos.

She enjoyed sewing, crafting and playing cards with friends and family. She was a member of the Altrusa Service Club, which made many quilts for the needy children of Utah and orphanages in Mexico.

Her greatest joy in her life was her family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, watching them play sports and participating in special events. Leora is greatly loved by her family, her playful and humorous spirit was contagious and will live on through the lucky people whose lives she touched. Leora is survived by her three children: Terri and Robert Harris, Burley, Idaho; Pamela and Mike Munson, Kaysville, Utah and James and Lorrie Giles, Sterling, Utah, her brother, Joseph and MaryLou Allen, her two sisters, NaDean Buttars and Ruth Robertson, also eight grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Leora was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd, her parents, a sister, Edris and brothers, Harris, Gilbert James Ron and Bruce.
At her request a private graveside service will be held.
