Lewis Smith Kerr, 93, passed away of natural causes on 20 June, 2007 at Logan Regional Hospital surrounded by his family. Lewis was born the eldest child of John L. and Hazel Smith Kerr on 11 March, 1914 in Wellsville, Utah.
He attended the Cache County Schools in Wellsville and graduated from South Cache High School. He attended Diesel Engineering School in California until returning to help with the Kerr Dairy Farm. He also worked part-time for the Railroad.
He married Esther S. Buist on 21 Nov 1939 in the Logan LDS Temple. They enjoyed 65 years of raising their family and working their farm together. She passed away on 2 Nov, 2004.
As a toddler, Lewis began following his dad around to help work the farm. He continued the farm and ranch tradition throughout the rest of his life, devoting himself to the land and his animals.
He grew up in the wagon and buggy days and saw his dairy & farm move from hand plows and horse teams to this modern age.
He was an avid hunter and hiker of the beautiful Wellsville mountains. He loved to take rides to see the canyons and the crops growing throughout the valley.
He loved to tell stories and had a lot of life experiences to share.
He was elected to serve on Wellsville’s City Council. He was a member of the LDS Church and held many various callings.
Surviving are his children Dean (Hillary) Kerr and Shirley (Stan) Poulsen, both of Wellsville; also 7 grandsons, 15 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Also surviving are his sisters and brother: Bertha (Bob) Price; Rhea (John) Olsen; Ranee (Doyle) McBride; and John (Carol) Kerr.
Preceding him in death: his parents, wife, and a sister, Marian (Leonard) Casterline.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday, June 25, 2007, at the Wellsville LDS 7th Ward Chapel; 660 South 100 West, Wellsville, Utah. Friends & family may attend a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday evening, at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center St., Logan, Utah. A viewing will be held from 10:30 am to 11:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Wellsville City Cemetery. Condolences may be extended to the family on line at
