Lloyd Baer

March 21, 1929 — July 23, 2015

Lloyd Astle Baer passed away Thursday, July 23rd, 2015 at home with his family surrounding him after a 7 year battle with cancer.
Lloyd was born on a spring day, March 21, 1929 in Providence to Joseph Richard Baer and Klea Astle Baer, the 10th of 14 children.
He grew up in Providence, attending Providence Elementary and South Cache High Schools. He served a Texas/Louisiana mission for the LDS church from 1950-1952. Upon his return from his mission, Lloyd was drafted into the army. He met Joyce Eliason of Hyrum, Utah and came home from furlough and they were married February 19, 1953 in the Logan LDS Temple. After being married for only 6 days, Lloyd was deployed to Korea for 17 months. They built their home and moved to Providence in 1958. They still reside in the same home that they built on the corner. Lloyd farmed and worked at Thiokol for 32 years, retiring in 1992.
Lloyd and Joyce are the parents of four children. David Lloyd Baer (Elizabeth) of Shreveport, LA; Holly Baer Duncan- deceased (Stephen), Roger Eliason Baer and Cody Glen Baer (Kim) all of Providence and a granddaughter, Ashley Nielsen (Dustin) whom they raised, also of Providence. They have 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren with one on the way.
Lloyd was very active in the LDS church and held various callings. He was known for his keen whit and sense of humor. Lloyd was honored as Citizen of the Year of Providence in 2003. If a helping hand or a nice chat was ever needed, Lloyd was always willing. To pass his time after retirement, he helped daily at many of his friends' farms. Lloyd was a caring, selfless father, husband, grandfather and friend and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, children and grandchildren along with 3 siblings, Donna Wright, Juanita Davis and Scott Baer.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his daughter Holly and grandson, Stephen Duncan.
The family wishes to thank all who have been so kind and generous during Lloyd's illness.
