HYRUM – Lloyd M. Owens, passed away Sunday July 31, 2011 at his home in Hyrum, Utah at the age of 93. He was born in Ogden, Utah Jan. 16, 1918 to Walter and Mary Owens. He married and later divorced Beulah Galloway. They had two children, Bobbie Lee (Roy) Nichols and Lloyd Max Owens, Jr. (Denise). Then in 1956 he met and after a whirlwind romance married Julia Pearce. Their children are Juliana (Scott) Larsen, Brigham City; Larry, Hyrum; and Gary (Terri) Owens, Mantua. He was preceded in death by his parents, all of his siblings, and his son Lloyd Max, Jr. His descendants include many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Lloyd was raised Lakeside, Utah was his father was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad. He graduated from Ogden High where he was active in boxing. He was a bus driver in Ogden until the war broke out in 1941 where upon he immediately joined the Army, where he served as a paratroop instructor. After the military he worked in construction upon dams throughout the west. Later he spent many years working at Defense Depot Ogden as a warehouse supervisor.
Lloyd was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings within the church. The one he enjoyed most was serving a mission to Peru Lima North with his wife Julia.
Lloyd was an avid outdoorsman who loved scouting, hunting and fishing. His pride and joy was when he got a buffalo and a Boone and Crockett moose in the same year. He also enjoyed fishing for salmon in Alaska.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 pm Thursday, Aug. 4 at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center, Logan, Utah. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Friday, Aug. 5 at the mortuary with Bishop Wayne Jorgensen conducting. Friends and family may visit from 11:00 to 12:30 at the mortuary prior to the services. Interment will follow at the Paradise Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 47.
The family expresses sincere appreciation to the Community Nursing Services Hospice workers for their help, love and support.
