Our sweet angel mother, grandmother, sister, and dear friend, Lois Renee Jessop Purser, age 92, peacefully continued along to the next step of her eternal journey on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Legacy House of Logan, Utah. She was welcomed into this world on March 2, 1933, in Nibley, Utah, by her parents, Ronald Ernest and Edith Watson Jessop as their second child.

Lois spent her early years alternating between Nibley and Logan. Her family permanently settled in Logan when she was about twelve years old. She spent most of her school years attending Woodruff Elementary, Logan Jr. and Sr. High Schools where she enjoyed learning and developed many friendships, graduating in 1951.

Lois, along with many of her siblings, was able to hone her early working skills at the old Spudnut Drive-In down the street from their home. In her later teenage years she began working at Steed’s Dairy Bar. Somewhere during those years she met her future husband, Gary Purser, of Hyde Park when he would come cruising into Logan with his friends. Lois and Gary were married in Salt Lake City, Utah, on August 30, 1952. She and Gary were later sealed in the Logan Temple on June 20, 1956.

Together, they enjoyed a long and happy 63-year marriage until Gary’s passing in 2015. Most of their marriage and family life was spent in Hyde Park, where they raised their children and built and maintained close relationships with many dear friends and loved ones. In 2003, they sold their Hyde Park home and built a retirement home in Smithfield.

Mom had an easy-going and accepting nature, she enjoyed close relationships with her own siblings and parents, Gary’s siblings and parents, as well as her children, neighbors, friends, and coworkers. Her children’s friends were her friends, as well. No one could not love Lois when they met her.

After her youngest daughter was born, Lois reentered the workforce and began working at Smith's Food King soon after it opened in Logan. She wrapped innumerable trays of meat, deep-fried a lot of chicken, and stocked plenty of deli goods during her 25 years of employment.

Not one to be idle, after retirement, Lois spent many years volunteering in the Logan Hospital Gift Shop, delivering Meals on Wheels with Gary, and learning and playing the sport of golf with her sisters and friends. Over the years, she enjoyed crocheting, sewing, other handwork, and working with Gary to grow and maintain a beautiful yard and garden. She canned many fruits and vegetables over the years, passing that skill on to her sons and her daughters. She also enjoyed playing Pinochle and other games in her card clubs for over 65 years. She loved trying new recipes, getting lost in a good book, shopping for deals (especially at the dollar store!), collecting frogs, attending DUP meetings, watching Sunday golf, Utah Jazz games, and Hallmark movies, going on trips (and coming home from trips), and having her family close by.

Until recently, Lois was a member of the Smithfield 18th Ward. She cherished her membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and enjoyed serving in her church callings in Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society over the years. She especially loved her years spent as a ministering sister as well as the ministering visits she received.

Although we will miss her more than words can describe, we are happy to see her continue on her journey back to the company of loved ones. Lois is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Gary, in addition to all of Gary’s siblings and their spouses. She was the last leaf of his generation’s family tree. Also preceding her are a stillborn daughter, Laurie, and her own brother, Dee, who recently passed away on her birthday.

She is survived and loved by many, including her five children, Scott (Carrie), Sandy (Mahmood) Akhavan, Jeff (Paula), Calvin (Pauline) and Melanie Pace, nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren. In addition, she leaves behind her seven siblings, Joye (Bernell-deceased) Hansen, Jay Jessop, LaRae (David-deceased) Bowen, Linda (Richard-deceased) Olsen, John (Beth) Jessop, Don (Brenda) McCulloch, and Kim (Monte) Hymas, as well as her sister-in-law, Linda Jessop.

Thanks and appreciation is given to the wonderful and caring staff of Logan Legacy House who have provided such warm and tender treatment to our mother over the past several months, and especially the past three weeks. We appreciate greatly the tender care given by Dr. Bradley Chambers, as well as IHC Hospice staff who have truly been angels these last two weeks. To Lois’s daughter, Sandy, there will never be enough words to thank you for your daily ministering to our mom in so many ways.

To honor and remember Lois, we invite you to make contact with that one person you’ve been meaning to call or visit, or enjoy an orange cream milkshake from Arby's.
