Lorna Nyman Dewey

January 19, 1927 — October 15, 2005

Lorna N. Dewey
Lorna Nyman Dewey, age 78, passed away peacefully at home Oct. 15,2005, after a mercifully short bout with cancer. She was born Jan. 19, 1927, in North Logan, Utah, to Andrew B. Nyman and Dessie Thurston Nyman, the second to the youngest of 9 children. Except for a 3-yr. period while she and her husband were in Ithaca, New York, attending graduate school, she was a life-long resident of North Logan.
She attended grade school in North Logan, high school at South Cache, and graduated from U.S.U. with a B.S. degree in home economics. Following graduation from U.S.U., Lorna taught home economics at Smithfield Jr. High School from 1949-1953.
Lorna married Wade G. Dewey June 8, 1951, in the Logan L.D.S. temple. A devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she was blessed with 4 children: Steven (Chris Hanks), Cheryl (Dave Anderson), Neal (Loreita Hansen), and Hal (who died while on an L.D.S. mission); 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren (and counting! )
She enjoyed sports, especially baseball-at which several of her brothers and nephews excelled. She was also a rabid Jazz basketball fan (and would have adopted John Stockton, had it been possible). Lorna loved music, played the bassoon, and was an excellent pianist. She was the accompanist for several girls choruses during her teenage years.
Lorna was a faithful member of the L.D. S. Church, serving in about every position in the Church's Primary, Young Women’s, and Relief Society organizations. One of the highlights of her church service was a mission to Adam-ondi-Ahman with her husband Wade in their later years.
Lorna was preceded in death by her parents; 6 brothers: Virgil (Beatrice Barker), Andrew B. Jr. (Jane Burrell), Farres (Verna Ackroyd), . Wendell, Walter, Burton (all 3 having died in infancy); and a sister Marietta (Ray White). She has 1 surviving sibling, Monte (Mary Ann Sullivan). She was also preceded in death by her son Hal.
Funeral services will be conducted Thurs., Oct. 20 at 12 noon in the North Logan 10th-11th ward chapel at 1550 E. 1900 N. Viewings will be held at the Allen-Cranney Mortuary in North Logan from 6-8 p.m., Wed. Oct. 19, and at the church from 10:30-11 :30 a.m. prior to the funeral services. Interment will be in the Logan cemetery.
The family expresses their deep gratitude to Dr. Steven Salisbury and his wife Sharon, and to the CNS Hospice Group, not only for their efficient professional services, but especially for their kind personal attention and thoughtfulness in helping us through this brief, but poignant experience.
Condolences may be sent to the family and register book signed at www.allenmortuaries.net
