Lorraine Olsen

November 8, 1920 — July 23, 2009

Stella Lorraine Miner Olsen
LOGAN, UTAH: Lorraine Olsen, 88, passed away after a stroke on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at home. She was born in Claremont, Minnesota November 8, 1920 to Scott Hamilton and Edith Viola Miner. Soon after Lorraine’s birth, her family moved to southern California where she spent her childhood.
Lorraine met her life’s love, George Olsen, in California. They were married in 1939 and George brought his young bride to Northern Utah where they built their home and raised their two children. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. For over 61 years, Lorraine and George were best friends and partners.
While their children were young, Lorraine was a homemaker earning awards and recognition at both local and state fairs for her quilts. Throughout her life, she continued to share her knowledge and expertise in quilting with family, friends and members of her ward. She was also just as talented and generous with her skills of crochet; teaching others to crochet and crocheting over 149 hats with her daughter for humanitarian projects last year. She served as a Primary President, as the Work Day Director for the Relief Society for many years and later, worked at the USU cafeteria for over 14 years as a “Hot Foods” cook.
Although her world changed dramatically when George proceeded her in death nine years ago, her most outstanding traits remained intact. She was strong in times of diversity and her gentle, unassuming nature which was genuinely grateful for the smallest deeds anyone did for her remained courageous and willing to take on new challenges ( with the exception of flying). During the past nine years, for example, not only did she learn how to use a computer she became proficient requiring greater speed and memory as she worked on extractions.
Lorraine was proceeded in death by her husband and parents. She leaves behind her children; Linda Olsen Wood ( John) and Marvin Jay Olsen (Paula); six grandchildren, Heidi Ricks ( Keith), Randy Hill, Elesha Fetrow ( Matt), Jenifer Chipman ( Quint), Camie Hansen (Ryan) and James Olsen ( Melanie); and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at 11:00 am in the Allen-Hall Mortuary. There will be a viewing from 9:30 - 10:30 am on Wednesday. Interment will follow in the Logan City Cemetery.
