ARIZONA - Lorraine Anderson Porter, 93, died in her sleep at the Casa de la Luz hospice in Tucson, Arizona on October 18, 2012. She was born on May 3, 1919 at the family home of her parents Nils P. and Emily (Hendricks) Anderson, 137 S. 300 East, Logan, Utah. Lorraine is survived by her husband of 69 years, Gordon E. Porter, of Tucson, Arizona, daughter Karen Porter of Tucson, her son Ralph Porter and daughter in law Julie Hyde-Porter of Centennial, Colorado. Lorraine had two granddaughters, five great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Her three brothers, (Wendell B. Anderson, Desmond L. Anderson, Keith H. Anderson) and sister Marjorie Henderson all predeceased her.
Lorraine graduated from Utah State with a BA in English. She remained an avid reader all her life, and participated in reading and literacy programs, including volunteering as a teacher’s aide for the Chandler Arizona School District for 8 years, an achievement she was proud of and commented about frequently.
She held a variety of jobs throughout her life ranging from work at the US Embassy in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, the Naval Supply Depot, and the Agriculture Research Station in Tucson, Arizona, but her favorite work experience was the 18 years she spent with the US Forest Service Laboratory in Logan. Lorraine also served as president and district director for the Cache Valley Business and Professional Women’s Association during the 1960s. She and Gordon retired in 1980 and moved to Arizona. Lorraine enjoyed the Arizona winter weather and traveling with friends as well as visiting her family during retirement.
Services are under the direction of the Allen-Hall Mortuary of Logan. A grave side service will be held at the Logan City Cemetery on Friday, October 26th at 2 PM. Condolences may be extended to the family online at
