Louis "Bus" Riggs

July 24, 1928 — October 30, 2009

PROVIDENCE – Louis “Bus” Riggs passed away October 30, 2009 at the Sunshine Terrace with his family at his side. His death was a result of an auto accident in Salmon, Idaho.

He was born July 24, 1928 in Benson, Utah to Louis B and Lucille Sophia “Lucy” Thompson Riggs. He married JoAnn Williamson on February 7, 1949 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

He graduated from North Cache High School at the age of 16. Shortly after graduation he joined the Merchant Marines and served for 1 year. Upon returning from the service, he helped on the family farm for several years. After he and JoAnn married, he embarked on his career as a drywaller.

Bus developed a love for the outdoors at an early age and spent many years hunting deer and elk on Buck Mountain and various places in the Naomi Wilderness Area and Cache National Forest with family and friends. He also developed a passion for fishing which he pursued vigorously. Bus fished not only the rivers and dams of Cache Valley, but also areas of Alaska, Washington, and Idaho. Years ago, one of Bus’s friends introduced him to fishing on the North Fork of the Salmon River, near Salmon, Idaho. He claimed once you’ve been to “The River “and fished, “The River” flowed in your blood. He was hooked and through this passion, his second home and family were born. He loved “The River” and all that came with it. He always said it was “The River of No Return”, but we are grateful that it spared him enough time to come home and say good-bye after his accident.

Bus is survived by his two daughters, Kathy Riggs (Mesquite, Nevada) and Cindy (Jed) Cronquist (Thatcher, Idaho). Dad is also survived by a special person he always referred to as his “third daughter” Jennifer Bill of North Fork, Idaho. He is survived by 7 grandchildren, Justin Riggs, Brandon Smith, Heather Riggs Eyman, Amanda Smith, Joshua Riggs, Lyndsie Cronquist, and Brigg Cronquist, and 6 ½ great-grandchildren. Also survived by sisters, Trilva Poppel (Roy, Utah), Delores (Doddie) LaMont (St. George, Utah), and brother Gerald Riggs (Bountiful, Utah). He was preceded in death by his wife JoAnn, son Terry Louis Riggs and his parents Louis B. and Lucy Riggs.

Dad enjoyed a good horse, good book, good gun, and a good beer. Dad was known as a great story teller and often wrote poems of wit and humor triggered by hunting and fishing adventures. We will miss him and hope he finally catches the “Big One”.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 in the Allen-Hall Mortuary Chapel.
