Louise Vanderbeek

February 26, 1919 — April 28, 2010

LOGAN, UTAH - Louise Pierce Vanderbeek, age 91, passed away on April 28, 2010, at Logan Regional Hostpital after a short illness.

Louise was born February 26, 1919 in Bridger, Montana to Charles Coates Pierce and Carrie Maria Russell. She was the oldest of two children. Her brother Charles pre-deceased her.

Louise graduated from Bridger High School in 1937. She continued on to college and graduated from Montana State University in 1942 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. Later that same year, Louise completed an internship for Dietetic Management from the University of Washington. She joined the staff at Syracuse University Food Service Management in 1943.

In 1945, Louise accepted a position in the Home Ecomonics Department at Utah State University, managing the university cafeteria. It was here where she met her beloved husband James L. Vanderbeek.

They were married November 20, 1948, in Pocatello, Idaho. Two sons were born from this union, James L. Vanderbeek, Jr. in 1951 and David P. Vanderbeek, in 1953.
Louise was a full-time mother and continued to have many other interests, including reading, sewing, gardening, and the Arts.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a member of the PEO Sorority.

Louise is survived by her husband of 62 years, James L. Vanderbeek, sons James L. Vanderbeek, Jr. and spouse Jan, of Silver City, New Mexico, David P. Vanderbeek and spouse Donna, of Grafton, Massachussetts, and four grandchildren, Susan, Stephan, Brian, and Aaron.

She is also survived by her husbands' brother and his wife, Don and Elaine Vanderbeek of Logan, nephew James D. Vanderbeek and spouse Sharla of Hyrum, and niece Ruth Vanderbeek Mickelson and husband Dwight of Vacaville, California.

A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 12 South 200 West in Logan, on May 4, 2010, at 12 o'clock noon. Condolences and thoughts may be expressed to the family online at www.allenmortuaries.net .
