Louise Shumway Wennergren, 97, passed away the afternoon of Dec. 13th , 2014 . She was born March 5, 1917, (during a blizzard) in Clarkston, Utah , a daughter of Richard Franklin Shumway and Laura Hobbs Shumway. She will be remembered as a loving wife to Claude Wennergren, mother to LuAnn, grandmother to nineteen (Great and Great-Great) grandchildren and friend to many.
Louise spent her childhood in Trenton, Utah, where her father was the principal of the elementary school. She attended North Cache High School until her Senior year when the family moved to Logan, She graduated from Logan High School (where she met Claude) and continued her education at Utah State Agricultural College , now USU. She graduated with degrees in Child Development and English, then taught school for two years at Lincoln Elementary School in Hyrum.
When Claude returned from his LDS mission to the North Central States he and Louise were married on June 14, 1940, in the Logan LDS Temple. They
made their home in North Logan. Together they owned the Wennergren ranch with ranching operations based in North Logan and west Logan. The enterprise included farm land, natural meadows, grazing permits and private land in Logan Canyon.
Multi-talented, she had a beautiful alto voice. She sang in the BelCanto Chorus when it was newly organized and in a trio that performed programs in the valley area. She was a pianist and also excelled as a clarinetist. She maintained a beautiful home until just a few weeks ago and over the years she and Claude were hosts for many delightful events.
Louise treasured her rich pioneer heritage and loved to recount the stories of her ancestors. For many years she was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and she enjoyed Family History.
From her pioneer grandmother she learned the art of "netting" and she created beautiful lace. Many young women received lace handkerchiefs for their wedding day. She served faithfully for forty years in the Logan Temple.
She is survived by her daughter, LuAnn Quayle (Dean); four grandchildren, Kristi Vaterlaus (Bret) of Boise, Idaho; Staci Larwin (Barrett) of Colorado Springs, Col.; Bret Quayle of Logan; Melissa McRae of Logan, and a sister-in-law Carol Wennergren Clay of Logan. There are fourteen great- grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren
Louise was preceded in death by her husband , Claude, in 2004; by grand son-in-law, Royce McRae; by her three sisters: Fredone Jones, Gwyneth England and Sybil Stewart and their husbands. She loved and appreciated her
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Monday, Dec. 22, 2014 at the Allen-Hall Mortuary (34 east Center in Logan). There will be a viewing , from 10 a.m to 11:30 a.m. prior to the funeral.
