Dewey passed away Monday night January 22, 2018 of R.A. induced Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was surrounded by his loved ones in the comfort of his home.
He was born January 17, 1936 in Millville Utah to Joseph Leonard Neves and Maggie Clifford. He was the youngest of 9 siblings. Dewey’s father passed away when he was 2 years old, this instilled the value of hard work early in his life.
Dewey enlisted in the Navy in 1954. He served overseas during the aftermath of the Korean War. He was a 2nd class deep sea diver, ship fitter, and master welder assigned to an attack cargo ship, USS Skagit 105.
While stationed in San Diego, Dewey would hitch hike back to Cache Valley while he was on a 72 hour pass. On one trip back, he attended a dance at the Elite Hall in Hyrum where he met the love of his life, Dixie McBride. They were married June 7, 1957 in the Logan LDS Temple. A year later Dewey was honorably discharged from the Navy and returned home. He spent many hours working with Dixie on her father’s ranch in Mt. Sterling and the Dry Lake area.
Dewey worked at USU Research & Development where the first snow grooming vehicles were developed. He traveled to ski resorts around the world as a service rep working on snow groomers and ski lifts while working at Thiokol and DeLorean Manufacturing. He was Plant Superintendent at Logan Manufacturing for 38 years.
Dewey and Dixie bought their first home in Logan in 1960 where they continued to build memories. They just celebrated their 60th anniversary this past summer. He loved their three children, Dana, Darin, and Devin. Every summer they would pack up their kids in their camper and travel across the western U.S. in addition to regular fishing trips to Bear Lake. Each fall they would escape to the mountains for Deer and Elk hunting. Dewey was an avid outdoorsman and was active all the way to the end. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and enjoyed attending their various sports and activities. His favorite past time was spending time at Dry Lake four wheeling and relaxing in their trailer. He also enjoyed his many trips to California to visit family. His three children were so good to him and he enjoyed all that they did.
Alongside his pocket knife, Dewey loved to carry wintergreen lifesavers, giving them to crying children, cashiers, doctors, nurses, and pretty much anyone he came in contact with. When you visited his home, very seldom could you leave without being forced to have some food or a cold soda. He also had a great sense of humor.
Dewey is survived by his wife Dixie and 3 children Dana Wylie, Darin (Kevin) Neves and Devin (Brenda) Neves. 7 Grandchildren Ty (Sam), Cole, Jake, Peyton, Lacie, Dreu and Saylor. 3 great-grandchildren. Siblings Beverly Gomm and Bart Neves. Sister-in-Law Marilyn (Tom) Walker. Family friend Ally Yeates.
