Lowell Dean Jenkins passed away on July 10th, 2015 in Logan, Utah just shy of his 90th birthday.
He was born August 14, 1925 to Charles and Martha Jenkins. He grew up with his brothers, Lynn and Charles, and a little sister, Carol just a block south of the Logan Tabernacle on first east. His mother died when he was 5, and was later raised by a stepmother, Mae Earl Jenkins. He continues a close relationship with his brother and sister-in-law, Kay and Ellen Rae Jeppesen.
Lowell was a graduate of Logan High School. His love of sports was evident as he played basketball for the Grizzlies and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his older brothers.
His life was miraculously spared while serving his country in World War II. He attended Utah State University and fulfilled a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Central States Mission. It was significant to him that his father and later his son and grandson were called to serve in this same mission headquartered in Independence, Missouri.
Lowell and his sweetheart Donna Crookston were married in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple December 14, 1949. They are the parents of 6 children, 21 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
As evidence of his love of Utah State University athletics, he served as President of the USU Quarter-back Club, and through his business, sold tickets to Aggie events for over seven decades.
His career at Logan Hardware began at a young age as he worked alongside his father. The business was later relocated and named Bennett’s Paint. Now his children and grandchildren continue in the 103rd year of the family business.
Lowell’s love of our Savior Jesus Christ was manifest by his life of service. The Logan Eleventh Ward was where he was raised and returned from military and church service to be called as a member of the bishopric and then as Bishop. Subsequently he served as Stake President and Patriarch.
Lowell was a devoted husband to Donna. He was firm in his faith and laid an exemplary foundation for his children: Martha Rose, Janice Stettler, Greg (Elizabeth) Jenkins, Sandra (David) Pack, Roxey (Stephen) Neeley, and Ron (Taunya) Jenkins.
Lowell can best be described as having unwavering faith in God, unconditional love for his family and selfless service to his friends.
