Logan, Utah: Lowell Dean Carlsen was reunited with his sweetheart of 56 years on Tuesday, November 14, 2006, following an extended illness.
He was born on August 9, 1925 in Hyrum, Utah, to Charles Oliver and Erma Hansen Carlsen, he was the eighth of ten children. Lowell was educated in Hyrum. During his senior year of high school, he left to join the Navy and was proud to be a gunner on an LST ship carrying supplies across the Atlantic to the troops in Italy and in the south of France. While home on leave from the Navy, he met the love of his life, Betty L. Morse. Together they raised five sons.
He owned and operated service stations from 1948 to the present. He had the foresight to start the first self-service gas station in Logan. He started one of the first coin-operated self-service car washes in Cache Valley.
Lowell enjoyed politics, meeting with friends at a local coffee shop where they attempted to resolve all the world’s problems. He loved sports; boxing, the Utah Jazz and football. Lowell loved his grandchildren and looked forward to their visits.
He was preceded in death by his wife; Betty, son; Dean, his mother and father and several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his sons; D. Craig, G. Bruce (Susan) of Logan; P. Kent (Blythe) of Salt Lake City; Terry B. of Logan; a brother, La Vell (Joy) of Hyrum; his sisters: Millicent (Grant) Parkinson of Wellsville and Sherlaine Pritchett of Logan; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, November 18, 2006 at the Allen-Hall Mortuary. A viewing will be held on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the mortuary and prior to services from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery with Military Honors by the American Legion. Condolences may be sent to the family at
