Luana Wiser Erickson celebrated her rebirth from mortal life and walked into the arms of loving family unexpectedly Wednesday March 26, 2014 at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray Utah, from complications following surgery.
Luana was born March 22, 1959 to Farrell and NaDene Kent Wiser, in Preston, Idaho. She spent her childhood years in Brigham City, and teenage years in Centerville Utah. She graduated from Viewmont High school. And studied at Ricks College Idaho on an academic scholarship.
It was at Ricks she met her sweetheart Mark Erickson. Mark and Luana were married February 2, 1979. And sealed in The Logan LDS Temple one year later.
They were blessed with six children, Matt (Jennifer) Erickson, Gina (Brandon) Gleed, David Erickson, Adam Erickson, Anna Erickson and Stephen (Mychelle) Erickson.
Luana was so excited to become a grandmother, it was simply the most joyous experience of her life, she welcomed Abby, Aniston, Colby, Jackson, Lyla, Michael, Braden and Kathleen in to her loving aproned embraces every spare second she had, she loved teaching them and watching them grow, from gardening to cooking, singing at the piano or just spending quiet time watching a movie, they could count on there always being homemade cookies at grandma’s house. She was adored and loved by each one.
Cooking, baking, canning and gardening were things that brought Luana great joy and satisfaction, every fall was spent canning anything she could get her hands on. Many times late into the night, then up early to provide daycare for the many children whose lives she touched, and still all the while baking bread and goodies daily. Children were a huge part of her life, many little ones were blessed by her loving heart. Luana was known to take in daycare on Sundays and seemed to always show up at church not only with her own young brood in tow but two or three extras. Luana believed that every child should go to Primary, she made sure her grandchildren went every week, once again showing her devotion to their spiritual growth. Luana served as Primary Chorister for many years. She especially enjoyed this calling. Luana took music into the nursery at Primary she taught these sweet little spirits to praise God thru song at three years old, and she was so proud of them, She loved her “little lambs “and they loved her right back. She enjoyed music of any kind and singing in the ward choir. Music inspired her and energized her soul.
Working in her yard growing flowers was a special kind of therapy for Luana. Her trade mark floppy garden hat will be missed by the neighborhood. She was a devoted friend, having a talent for making those around her feel special and unconditionally loved. Luana enjoyed her visiting teaching assignments, she never missed a month, and she was often assigned to inactive sisters in the ward because she could always reach them.
Luana was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served tirelessly and devotedly in any calling assigned to her, She loved her Savior and a shared her Testimony by her example of faith and obedience.
Time spent with family was a priority, planning a family trip to Jackson Wyoming rafting the Snake River was a yearly event, Luana spent many hours planning and preparing food for this special family outing, she made sure no one ever went hungry her famous ham salad will be missed. Everyone was invited to this much anticipated family tradition every year including many of her children’s friends who also called her mom.
