Lucy Beth Cowley Cahoon passed away January 2,2009, at home in Logan surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Logan, Utah April 8, 1931, to Merlin Joseph Cowley and Opal Evelyn Cash Cowley. She married Winston Arthur Cahoon November 21,1952, in the Logan LDS Temple. She attended Logan city schools, and graduated from Logan High, where she was a member of the marching band. She attended USU majoring in Home Economics. Arthur graduated from USU in 1954 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. During their assignment with the Air Force, they were able to travel through much of Western Europe. They returned and made their home in Logan, where they raised their family.
She was employed by Sears in the accounting department for many years, and she held many positions in the LDS church including Primary President, Relief Society President, and advisor to the Lambda Delta Sorority. She also served as a full-time missionary with Arthur in the New Jersey Morristown Mission from 1997-1999.
She loved music, singing, playing the piano and organ, enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking, serving others, and being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lucy Beth was always a kind, cheerful, and charitable person who gave of herself. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Arthur, four children Jann Peterson (Miles) of Alta Lorna, CA., Dwight, of Logan, Spencer, (Sheri) of Elko, NV, and Catherine Griswold (Jim) of Providence, UT. 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren with 3 more due this year. Her sister, Corrine Berg, (Ogden, UT) and her brother Gloyd (Glodine) Cowley (Wickenburg, AZ), and sister-in-law, Joan Cowley (Berthoud, CO), sister-in-law, Carolyn (Dale) Christensen (Walnut Creek, CA), and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jodie Cowley, and her brother-in-law Carl Berg.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 :00 a.m. Wednesday, January 7 at the Logan Cliffside 1st Ward Chapel, 1380 East 25 North. A viewing will be held at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center St. in Logan, on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, January 7 at the Logan Cliffside 1st Ward from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment at the Logan Cemetery.
