SANDY, UTAH - Lynn Robison Willey, born April 19, 1916, passed away Sunday August 25, 2008, of cause’s incident to age.
Lynn was born in a small log cabin to pioneer parents in Byron, Wyoming. He was the sixth child of seven born to Roy and Clarissa Ann (Robison) Willey, beating his twin brother into the world by five minutes. His father and mother were some of the founding settlers of the Big Horn Basin in Wyoming.
Lynn attended school in Byron and was part of a graduating class of eight from Byron High School. While in high school, Lynn and two of his brothers, Lyle his twin and DeVerl his oldest brother, joined a local dance band and played in about every small town from Thermopolis, Wyoming to Billings, Montana. He attended different schools until he finally ended up at Utah State Agricultural College (as it was known at the time). It was there that he discovered his second love, auto mechanics. Lynn pursued his chosen field of education, ultimately earning a PhD. He returned to USU where he taught automotive technology for over thirty-five years. Lynn was an expert body and fender repairman, automotive painter, mobile engine repairman as well as front end alignment, upholstery, fuels and lubricants and welding technician. Lynn was so good at welding that he was hired to work summers as a welder and personally welded much of the natural gas pipeline in Northern Utah when they were first installed. When Lynn retired from teaching he almost immediately returned to his first love and played in local dance bands until he lost his sight.
It was while playing at a dance in Lovell, Wyoming that he met the true love of his life. He recalls that she was dancing with someone he knew and that she “took his eye”. He asked to be introduced to her and it was from there that they began a courtship that lasted for approximately five years. Lynn married Marie Peterson on December 17, 1937, in her parents’ home. It was much too dangerous for anyone to travel to Utah at that time of year, so it was not until March 25, 1938, that they were able to be sealed in the Logan temple. During their over seventy years of marriage they have seen their family grow. They have four children, Richard (Sheila), Kay (Jerry Gines), Jim (Marci) and Alan; eleven grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Lynn was always active in the LDS church and served as a High Priest at the time of his death. For Lynn, one of the highlights of his church service was working as an officiator in the Logan Temple for approximately twenty years, until cancer and its side effects forced him to be released.
Lynn is survived by his wife Marie, his children, a sister Armenia (Billie) Stoker and a brother Ivan. Inurnment will be at the Logan City Cemetery.
Services will be held at the Lundstrom Park 3rd Ward, 1260 North 1600 East in Logan on Friday, August 29, 2008, at 12:00 PM. A viewing will be held at the Allen-Hall Mortuary on Thursday evening, 34 East Center St in Logan, August 28, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, and from 10:30-11:30 AM prior to services on Friday at the church.
