Lynn Willard Casper

October 23, 1918 — March 25, 2009

Our beloved father, Lynn Willard Casper passed away peacefully on March 25, 2009, at the Idaho Falls Health and Rehab Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
He was reunited with his eternal companion of 62 years, Ruth Margaret Hansen Casper.
Lynn was born on October 23rd, 1918 in Driggs, Idaho to Willard James and Dellas Stevens Casper. He grew up in Teton Valley and graduated from Teton High School in 1936. He attended college in Moscow, Idaho in 1938 and then served an L.D.S Mission to the Northwest States from 1939 to 1941. He married Ruth Hansen on October 13, 1941 in the Cardston Alberta, Canada Temple. They made their home in Pratt Ward east of Driggs, Idaho where he worked on his Father's farm until the Spring of 1942 when he was drafted into the US Navy. He was assigned to the USS Grimes. When he was discharged from the Navy he again worked on his father's farm until he obtained the job of Rural Mail Carrier for the Driggs Post Office. He also continued to farm and in 1951 he became the Postal Clerk in the Driggs Post Office, a job he held until 1965. During that time he also milked cows and helped his father-in-law William Hansen on his farm.
Lynn held many church positions including Counselor to the Bishop, Bishop of the Driggs Second Ward from 1953 to 1960, High Council from 1960 to 1965, Stake Missionary, Executive Secretary, High Priest Group Leader, and Temple Officiator. A calling that he loved and took very seriously was as a Home Teacher. Lynn and Ruth served a full time Mission to the Philippines from February 1985 to August 1986. In 1965 Lynn moved with Ruth and their 3 youngest children to Logan, Utah. He worked for Cash Meadow Farms until he was able to get back into the Post Office where he was a Mail Carrier until his retirement in 1984. In 2009 he moved to the Idaho Falls Health and Rehabilitation Center where he resided until his death. Lynn was deeply loved by his family and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. His grandchildren and children from his neighborhood have many wonderful memories of time spent with him. He loved children and always had time for them. He taught many life lessons especially honesty, giving an honest days work for a days pay. He was a master gardener and loved to share his produce. Lynn is survived by one son and four daughters, Neldon (Virginia) Casper, JoAnn (Richard) Freeman, both of Idaho Falls, ID; Randee Sue (Jim) Jones, Salt Lake City, Utah; Kathy (Phillip) Elliott, Afton, Wyoming and Cynthia (Keven) Holmes, North Logan, Utah; thirteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth by his parents, and sister Elda Burnside, infant sister Lola Casper, two grandchildren and one great grandchild. The family would like to thank CNS Hospice, Aids and Nurses at Terrace Grove Assisted Living, and Idaho Falls Health and Rehab for their wonderful care and concern.
