M. Carol H. Juchau

With gratitude and love, we acknowledge the passing of our dear mom, grandma, great-grandma, aunt, neighbor, and friend on October 30, 2018. Martha Carol Heiner Juchau was born August 6, 1927, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Spencer C. and Eva L. Cragun Heiner. She was the youngest of four children. She had a happy childhood in Salt Lake, attended school there, and graduated from South High in 1944.

She worked as a secretary at Hill Field Air Base for almost two years, earning enough to start her schooling at BYU. It was here that she met her husband, Clyde L. Juchau. They were married September 17, 1947, in the Salt Lake City temple. She then worked while Clyde completed his degree in 1949 at the University of Utah.

Their son Kerry was born in Pocatello, Idaho, in 1951. Their daughter Julie was born in Oakland, California, in 1953. Carol and Clyde lived in northern California – San Francisco, Orinda, and Pleasanton - for the next 30 years. Their daughter, jan, was born in 1959, and Dan was born in 1961. Carol served faithfully in her church callings through the years, in Primary and Relief Society on the ward and stake levels. She especially treasured her time serving the female inmates at the Santa Rita Correction facility. She and Clyde served as temple workers in the Oakland temple.

Everywhere she lived, Carol made friends that lasted a lifetime. She cherished family and friends, keeping in touch through handwritten letters, Christmas cards, and thoughtful gifts. She and Clyde loved to travel. She collected thimbles from all over the world. She was cheerful and optimistic, and a devoted wife and mother.

In 1984 Carol and Clyde moved to Logan, Utah. Here they continued to serve and volunteer, and made many more treasured friends. Carol battled cancer. Carol and Clyde served a mission to Denver, Colorado, from 1991-1992. Carol was a devoted caregiver to Clyde as he struggled with Parkinson’s disease. After his passing in 2010, Carol remained in Logan for several years with the help and care of ward members, neighbors, and family. In 2017 she relocated to Legacy Village in Provo for extended care, where she was under the watchful eye of staff members and OneCare Home Health and Hospice. Her daughter Julie was her primary caregiver there.

Carol was generous, loving, and giving. She shed laughter and light most places she went. Her children are so grateful for her example and support, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved to visit her, hear her stories, and play wild card and domino games with her. She is so missed, yet we can’t help but think of how glad she must be to be “herself” again, and to be reunited with Clyde and so many other loved ones.

Carol is survived by her children: Kerry (Cathy) of Surprise, Arizona; Julie (Jeff Nichols III) of Provo, Utah; jan (Mark Argyle) of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Dan (Jill) of San Jose, California. Also surviving her are her beloved 13 grandchildren and almost 35 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her husband, her parents, and her siblings Spencer, Helen and Douglas. Her legacy is one of service, caring, cheerfulness, organization, great sociability, and general graciousness and delight. We love our memories of her and honor her with all our hearts.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 10th, at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center St., Logan, Utah, with a viewing from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m. that morning. Burial will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
