Mada Elizabeth Heninger Ashment, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully in her home on October 15, 2024.
Mada was born on Saint Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1945, to Rulon and Pearl Heninger in Logan, Utah. She grew up in River Heights and eventually married her eternal companion, Steven Earl Ashment in the Logan, Utah Temple. They raised their family of seven children in North Logan.
Steve and Mada shared 59 years of marriage together. They supported each other through a life filled with joy, intermixed with trials. These experiences forged their faith in Jesus Christ and love for their family and each other. They endured together always as sweethearts and eternal companions.
Mada was a wonderful mother to her seven children. As her health allowed, she showed up to all of their sporting events, talent shows, and extracurricular activities. She was active in their lives and served in the PTA. She taught her children to appreciate the beauty of nature and the grandeur of the mountains, often with a camera in hand.
She loved Christmas and enjoyed giving her children and grandchildren thoughtful gifts. She celebrated their lives and personal growth, and she always made an effort to listen to, understand, comfort, and encourage them at every opportunity. Her unconditional love and counsel will always be remembered by her family.
Mada was a loyal and true friend, and enjoyed many meaningful and enduring relationships throughout her life. One of her favorite pastimes was painting in nature with her beloved friends. Mada was a talented artist and sold many of her oil paintings in art galleries throughout the western United States. Those who were fortunate enough to acquire one of Mada’s paintings continue to cherish them as family heirlooms. She loved and appreciated quality art and worked to preserve historical art.
Mada endured numerous, difficult health-related challenges in life and was bedridden for many years. She suffered greatly, but her firm testimony of our Savior, Jesus Christ, was unwavering. Her prayers, concern, and counsel helped her family and friends tremendously and will always be remembered.
Heaven has gained a beautiful woman who blessed so many in quiet, kind, and thoughtful ways. We mourn her passing, but we celebrate her return to a loving Heavenly Father and think fondly of the sweet reunions with Steve, her mother, father, and brother, Jared, as well as the other family members who passed before her.
Mada is survived by her children, Kerry (Terri) Ashment, Shannon (Stephen Raymond) Ashment, Shaun Ashment, Tresa (Joel) Burton, Daniel (Kelsey) Ashment, Scott Ashment, and Nicole (John) Zilles. She is also survived by two siblings, nineteen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Steve, and her mother, father, and her brother, Jared.
Mada’s family would like to share their heartfelt appreciation for the wonderful friends, neighbors, and ward members who stood by her side throughout the years and brought food, friendship, and comfort into her life on a regular basis. It was not in her nature to complain and dwell on her problems, and often when she was in pain, she still found time to comfort her family and friends. She was truly an inspiration on enduring to the end.
