Mardene Kerr Murray, 88, of Wellsville, Utah, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2018. She was born on May 13, 1929, in Wellsville, Utah, to John Bankhead Kerr and Esther Gunnell Maughan Kerr. She was the youngest of three children. Her mother passed away when she was one month old and she was raised by her Aunt Zella Kerr.
Mardene graduated from South Cache High School in 1947 and married her high school sweetheart, Heber Kay Murray, in the Logan LDS temple, on March 24, 1948. They began their early years together on the family farm later purchasing their own farm and dairy in Wellsville City.
Mom’s early years were spent raising her four children helping dad on the farm. Dad and mom loved to dance and she loved her high heeled shoes and frilly skirts! They traveled throughout the state to many dancing events with her cherished friends from the surrounding area. She maintained relationships with her Wellsville friends though out her entire life. She was an excellent cook making everything from scratch, of course. She was always running for equipment parts, taking lunches to the farm, hauling hay, etc., and making sure all the kids were on task. She was excellent homemaker, gardner, and spent many hours canning beautiful fruits and vegetables.
She was a member of the Wellsville Ladies Club and enjoyed many monthly meetings over the years with her friends. Mom was a member of the LDS church and served in the Primary, MIA, and several years as a visiting teacher in the Relief Society. She worked at the Morning Sego Milk Plant, Watkins Printing, and Cal Ranch Store. She loved her years working in sales at Cal Ranch Store and developed many close friendships and was very good at helping the customers find just what they needed.
Mom’s family was the most important part of her life. She leaves behind four children, Dennis K. Murray (Joan), Marilyn M. Eliason (Thayle (deceased)), JoAnn M. Kirby (Dwight B), and Sharon Paro (Philip). She had 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Kay; Son-in-law; Thayle; Grandson, Robert; both parents and siblings LaRee (Melvin) Orgill and John M. (Donna) Kerr.
