Sarah Margaret Phillips Bingham
Margaret slipped away peacefully in her sleep on August 31, 2010. She was born in Dayton, Idaho on November 15, 1917, the youngest daughter of Thomas James Phillips and Mary Alvira Dees Phillips. This was also her mother's birthday and she enjoyed sharing a birthday with her mother. The family moved to Idaho Falls when Margaret was a baby, and this is where she grew up. Her mother died when Margaret was only eight years old. Margaret's Cousin Melva and older sister's stepped in to take the mother role, as well as the family's longtime housekeeper, Lizzy, but she was closest to her Dad, who took her nearly everywhere with him. Everyone in town called her "Tom's Baby".
Margaret graduated from Idaho Falls High School and got a job working as a telephone operator. It was during this time that she met William Clifford Bingham. They were married in Rexburg, Idaho and were later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Margaret loved being a wife and mother and devoted her life to raising her family of three children, Ralph, Bill, and DiAnne. She was also known for being one of the best cooks in Rexburg, where they made their home for many years.
Cliff and Margaret spent a lot of time fishing and camping and both enjoyed these activities. After Cliff retired, they moved to Carlsbad, California near Margaret's Sister, Leah. They loved living near the beach and had a wonderful retirement. Clifford died in 2000, and Margaret lived for some time with Bill and Janice in San Diego before moving to Logan, Utah to be near DiAnne and her family. Margaret lived in Williamsburg independent living Center in Logan where she made many friends. She moved to Sunshine Terrace last May.
Margaret's biggest heartaches were when Cliff, and later, her oldest son, Ralph
Margaret always had a wide circle of friends and making and keeping friends was one of her favorite things. She had a close friend, Ingrid, who was her friend from age five until Ingrid died two years ago. Margaret also loved to serve others. She enjoyed taking in food or helping nurse other's through illness. She loved to bring comfort to all around her and was a happy and vivacious woman.
We all love Mom and miss her greatly, but know that she is now with those she love who have also passed on.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Leslie, Archie, Alice and Leah, her husband Cliff, son Ralph, grandson William David Bingham and her mother and father in law, Ruby and Elmer Bingham who treated her like their own daughter.
She is survived by children, Bill (Janice) Bingham and DiAnne (Quent) Casperson, and Pattie Bingham as well as grandchildren, Jill DeRitter, Christopher Bingham, Jennifer Bingham, Cliff Bingham, Samantha Holloway, Quent L. Casperson, Kristian Casperson, Sarah Wiren, and Patrick Casperson, as well as 11 great-grandchildren.
