Wellsville, Utah: Mary Margaret Gurell Maughan was born on March 16, 1920, to Norbert Austin and Gladys Stark Gurell in Randolph, Utah, and had many wonderful stories of living in New Mexico and Colorado as a child and young adult. She attended Utah State University with studies in Food and Nutrition and Physical Education. It was at USU she met and eventually married Seth Poppleton Maughan on December 5, 1941, in the Logan Temple.
Margaret was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions, including the Logan Temple Cafeteria for several years. After Seth’s passing, Margaret went on an LDS mission in the San Bernardino Mission, California in 1984. Margaret was also able to travel to several countries with family, school and church organizations.
Margaret donated many hours of service with demonstrations of wool dyeing and spinning, weaving, bobbin lace, and in pioneer soap making. Margaret loved to knit and crochet. She always had a few projects going; one project involved making leper bandages for the church welfare. Margaret also enjoyed decorating many wedding cakes for family and friends.
Margaret is survived by a sister, Patricia Bailey (Robert), of Sun City, Arizona, and children Colby, Debra Cudney (Quentin), Randall (Kathy), Dorcus Kleinschuster (Stephen), Tracy (Jeanna), and Tom (Kimberly), and daughters-in-law Valerie Maughan (Gregory) and Patty Maughan (Nolan), and 46 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Seth, her parents and brothers Tom Gurell, Norbert and Pauline Gurell, sons Gregory, Kelly, and Nolan, and daughter-in-law Yvonne Maughan, and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Because of her lifelong love of animals, Margaret has requested in lieu of flowers donations be sent to Four Paws Rescue, P.O. Box 422, Millville, UT 84326.
